I imagine Cortese believes he's appointed a better manager than he had before which will therefore be to the long term benefit of the club.

Whether his beliefs are correct or not is a different issue altogether... But lets be honest, with the players at his disposal it's not like Adkins was doing an unbelievably good job this season.

Casting the mind back to Adkins televised poem back before christmas, one of the ending lines went something like "the most important person in the mirror, is the one that you are able to look back at"

There's been stuff going on behind the scenes at Southampton for ages, and was only a matter of time before Adkins went. It's just a surprise that the timing has coincided with their decent form.

This type of cut-throat decision making worked for Cortese is getting rid of Pardew, and I have a feeling it will lead to similar levels of success this time round.

Doesn't stop it being a horrendously twattish way of treating a guy who did his job very well for 2 years, but these types of decisions are made every day in business.

Highly regarded in Europe for the work he did at Espanyol with a board who were constantly taking the rug out from under his feet. It's an unusual choice but Cortese is no mug and I'm sure he has his reasons.

Only time will tell. I think all RFC fans will be hoping he turns out to as hopeless in management as the most famous of all the ex-Argies
