Not an issue turning down Ireland if you are not Irish and do not feel as though you would have the necessary passion to play for "your" country...

I think the main consideration would be if he could stay fit and score goals, that would make him popular enough!!

FiNeRaIn Two old firm games we've had the kitchen sink thrown at us whilst playing the reserves and taken 4 points off them. They are really hurting. So much fight and spirit in this rangers side, makes you shiver with pride. :D

Apparently celtic are signing dave kitson in January also. Not sure he'd go down well though as he turned down the chance to play for Ireland.

there is no doubt celtic are a better side but it's tough when your strikers can't finish and refereeing decisions go against you, oh and celtic are missing players too, what it boils down to, and I'm sure you'll agree, daniella, is two very average sides, with rangers having a better defence (i.e. they can defend, kick, hoof, hassle, no real ability) and celtic are better everywhere else bar up front where they can't stick a chance away and of course having your only two midfielders who can score prolifically (Brown and Maloney) out doesn't help.

I think it's fair to say Celtic have the better technically accomplished players, but it seems to me Rangers have a resilience about them that Celtic don't have. They're also a more rugged side, and there are teams that will be intimidated by that. What you appear to be saying, gus, is that Rangers have a better defence and attack. That leaves Celtic with the better midfield. That depends on what you class as a better midfield. With the ball Celtic's midfield is far superior, but when it comes to the nitty gritty of midfield play I think Rangers players have the egde in that regard. They're bigger, stronger, better in the air, offer more support to their defence etc. They're not a pretty side to watch, Rangers, but they're extremely effective domestically. And yesterday they had Miller, Beasley, Naismith, Thomson, Mendes, Bougherra, and Novo (after 10 mins) all out. They are ALL key players, and they did extremely well to get a point. They struggled all game, but their resilience showed in the end.

Lastly, I remember your assertion that Aidan McGeady is "world class". No he's not. He's quick, skilful, and direct, but his end product is consistently poor, and it is the end product that counts for most. I'm not basing that assertion on one game, I'm basing it on all the games I've seen McGeady play in for Celtic and Ireland. He cannot be considered world class.

Novo
Thompson
Miller
Naismith
Bougherra
Mendes

All out of the game sunday, celtic have twice struggled to beat an injury/suspension hit Rangers side. Other than that, I agree that both sides are average in compared to the 90's.

I remember people saying ronaldo had no end product when he was mcgeady's age

oh and tell me who beat 4 players and provided the cross for the one goal celtic did score?

out of all the players in scotland only he HAS THE POTENTIAL to play for a big 4 side

Dave Kitson joining CeLOLtic. So much for being a giant of European football he couldn't even get a game for Stoke.

Cristiano Ronaldo (I assume you mean him?) is 24. McGeady is 23. Both have played as a winger or a forward. From then on the players are, quite simply, not comparable but if you want to compare, raw stats tell a big story even before you start to look at the respective levels they play at. Ronaldo has currently played 319 games for Sporting, Manchester Utd, and Real Madrid. In that time he has scored 126 goals, and has Lord knows how many assists. McGeady currently has 228 appearances for Celtic and has 35 goals.

My opinion is that McGeady is a player who should be playing at a better standard than the SPL, and would improve in a better team, maybe Fulham, Sunderland, Everton etc but if you really think he should be playing at top 4 EPL level at some stage in his career then unless he shows a massive improvement then I don't agree. I don't see enough quality in him, and more importantly his final product in terms of final ball or shot is just not good enough. Don't get me wrong, with the ball at his feet he's very good, when running at defenders he'll scare the life out of them, but it's no good scaring the life out of a defender and then putting a cross into the 'keeper's arms or skying a one-on-one (both of which he did in the Auld Firm at the weekend). At the age of 23, and with the number of games he has played, his final ball should be of a quality higher than it is most of the time now. That is what separates the very good from world class.

ROFL

who did you have out? Scott brown and Maloney?

1. No Miller
2. No Beasley
3. No Naismith
4. No Thomson
5. No Mendes
6. No Bougie
7. No Novo

gus with rangers having a better defence (i.e. they can defend, kick, hoof, hassle, no real ability) and celtic are better everywhere else bar up front where they can't stick a chance away

So you are better than rangers every except up in defense and up front. How does that work?

Face it, you played rangers reserves off the park for 90 minutes and struggled to score, When you did take the lead you manged to hang on for 2 minutes 20 seconds.

Celtic has a team full of alleged strikers who couldn't hit a barn door. Apart from the one who can't get a game.

Scarfs on the pitch lol. Silly standard of football. Can't stand Mowbray and the way he talks through his teeth. He'll be back in the Championship soon.

Reserve a lol at Rangers too. No treble.

Swapped MSNs with a couple of stickies this evening, they're still on it from Sunday's epic and the suspicion is that most of the players might be as well.
