Royal With Cheese Went to Oxford on Saturday. Refreshingly, even though they won 5-0, they were shit. Officials were inept and bizarre in equal portions.

The oxford following literrally came straight out of a freak show - it was quite frightening.

I know Reading fans are quite high on the 'mong list' but seriously they are nothing compared to Oxford fans, they belong on the Goonies or Garbage patch kids.

Terminal Boardom Not too dissimilar to what used to exist at Wokingham Town's ground.

... what about that weird Greenhouse/Conservatory affair-stand they built down the far end - never quite understood it - ended up as a kind of store room - but I'm sure it used to have seats in it.

Oh and - been said before but RIP 'Pin & Bowl' too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.... heard an (unbelievable) rumble somewhere on the NL Forum that Wokkers may even be considering moving BACK from Cantley to Emmbrook's ground @ Lowther Rd.
Can't possibly see how that would over come their NIMBY obstacle - they'll still be nowhere nearer being able to have lights?! :roll:
Galling that there ARE already high-intensity floodlights @ Cantley for the All-Weather (Hockey) pitch.
Might get a bit 'soul destroying' especially if - as is distinctly possible - they do actually win the league this season.
The general consensus is, that the FA have finally run out of patience with the CCL & the Hellenic over ground-gradings and after 09/10 season will force them to boot all non-lit clubs back into the County Leagues.
Might actually be the 'death' of the lower level Hellenic - a 2nd tier for teams with lights would need to stretch from Harrow Hill/Lydney in the West over to Henley in the East.
The CCL wouldn't be that much better off - I think there's 12 out of 21 without lights and no hope of most of these ever getting any.
W&E drew 1-1 at Evesham from a division higher.
We have just signed Victor Osobu from Beaconsfield SYCOB - a 20 year old big fast black centre forward who was excellent for AFC Hayes when they played (and beat) us at Stag Meadow last season.
I just hope he's better than Marcus Richardson, another big black centre forward (with a good deal of League experience) who we signed a couple of months ago and has proved to be as disappointing as a flat and soggy Yorkshire pudding (and about as fast). How the guy got well over 100 appearances as a League Two player I will never understand. He is less of a footballer than several of the 10 year olds my son plays with.
In 10+ games has looked ready to drop after the 1st 10 minutes in every one, has failed to score and in fact has not made a proper connection with a single shot and is a totally unsettling and unbalancing liability. (And he has the spindliest lower legs I have ever seen on a man - he's fat above the knee and anorexic below!)
Not quite sure what the hell has happened to Maiders.
Seen them a few times this season and apart fromclimbing off the bottom with a win over Welling they have been total dump.
Last 3 games won 4-0, 5-0, 3-0. :shock:
Some top class BANT from Oxford fans on the train back from WBA today, what a delusional bunch of prats. Some grinning simpleton noticed the RFC scarf adorning my neck and smirked "unlucky mate" which drew a frown and enquiry from me as to who he supported. "Enjoying the Conference?" I asked, the Oxford mong informed me that we were going down and I reminded him that at the very worst we would still be a division above them next season. Village idiot then returned to his group of friends in our carriage who were chatting with a WBA fan who thankfully got off at Leamington but not before the entire carriage heard them explain to him what a a big club Oxford are, that they has taken 800 to York etc.
Good work Maiders. Hippolyte > Rodgers. Maidenhead will be getting plenty more of my money this season, Reading only waste it after all.
Went to Wealdstone against Margate (3-1 in FA Trophy). Good beer & food plus easy parking and value for money.
Away to Aylesbury in FA Cup next week after 3-0 win over Lewes. May venture there as well.
... you won't find the parking quite as easy for Aylesbury - not sure how on earth they coped in the last round vs Chesham (crowd - approx 450)and I'd imagine Wealdstone could take as many ?
I think I'm off to watch the 'Thugs & Muggers' (that's what Walton fans call 'em!) host Eastbourne Borough - also in the FA Cup.
- don't normally like venturing too far inside the M25 but its only about 10 miles in; besides there aren't any other FA CUP ties at grounds I haven't been to, within a decent range.
Thought about Kiddy, Nuneaton or Kettering but they're all 2 hrs plus and probably will charge the earth to get in - not sure if there is an Admission Price 'cap' - I think there is a minimum price set by the FA.
T&M will be charging £10 = probably about what they charge for League games?
I joined the Supporters Club today on the promise that it would be worth every penny. Looks like my first venture will be 3rd Nov when I believe they are scheduled to play Thatcham. Could be wrong though...
There are 2 other home games before then....
http://www.wefc.co.uk/first/wefc_02.asp
(What will you be wearing....?) :wink:
By the way, except for the best games if you roll up at anytime up to 20 minutes before KO you can be almost certain of getting parked if you go down the "alley" next to the ground itself, which opens out into gravel car park surface. (Half an hour guarantees it.) You then have a max 20 yard walk to the turnstile!
And Tredder, well yes, I have only been to the Madejski once since December when I first went to Stag Meadow... still RFC at heart but there is something rather appealing about this level.
Anyway, I was generally only an armchair supporter wasn't I? :D
Richardson was dump and released by Torquay which is always a good marker for the talents of said player.
Why isn't there any sodding games on Tuesday night? Means I am considering wasting my life savings to go to QPR
http://www.wefc.co.uk/
(I already posted the fixture list a few posts back)
M4 to J6, head for Windsor on the Relief Road (A332). Go to the very end and take the 3rd exit at the Roundabout, B3175, which is Imperial Road. Go to the end of the road 1/2 mile, then turn / filter left at the lights. The ground is about 1/4 mile on the right, I believe it is signposted as Stag Meadow, W&E FC. Anyway, the right turn is at a big corner shop, Budgens, Kwik Save, Premier or some such. Go about 50 yards and turn left at the end and it suddenly opens out into the ground / car park. The car park is to the left of, and right next to the ground... careful not to run over some of the old codgers walking their zimmers up to the turnstile. (As you drive down you may be thinking there's no fcuking football ground or car park down here....)
Easy peasy.
Alan Partridge Why isn't there any sodding games on Tuesday night? Means I am considering wasting my life savings to go to QPR
... wouldn't dream of 'tempting' you away from Stag Meadow but there are in fact over a doz. 'local' alternatives this Tuesday eve, to an over-priced bog-awful view with nowhere to park - just to watch Bodger's finest most likely get caned by the Fake Hoops :|
Pondering which to go to myself - trouble with Cup games is they can drag into ET & pens which can then seriously impinge on 'beer-time'. 8)
FA Trophy replays were mentioned above - as well as the Royalists v Evesham there are three other replays :
Marlow v Merthyr
Slough v Uxbridge (@ Beaconsfield FC - virtually adjacent to M40 jn 4)
... Oh and sssh Oxford City vs Chesham :? - their ground - which is quite impressive - is way up on the NE bit of the Ring Rd beyond the A40.
... also League matches @
Camberley, Chertsey & Henley
... and various 'lesser' Cup Ties taking place - for example @
Reading Town, Cove, Sandhurst, Farnham & Fleet Spurs.
