Man City confirm Lampards loan is extended to the summer. An angry NY FC apparently 'reveal' that Lampard never signed for them anyway and is actually a fully signed up Man City player.

Accusations flying around that it was just a nice way for Man City's owners to get some good publicity for their NY football team and for Lampard to stay in England, play top level football and not get grief for directly moving to one of Chelsea's main rivals in the league.

I think that may be true in terms of the international registration but from what I can see NYFC do exist and are already paying some players, David Villa for one. For some reason, despite all the fanfare, Lampard isn't one of those players who's been contracted and down as being paid by NYFC according to the MLS.

I don't think it makes a lot of difference to be honest, but it seems a bit underhand for Lampard, NYFC and Man City to at least imply that Lampard was on-loan and not just signing for them. It wouldn't make any difference to me if I were a Chelsea fan whether he'd signed for City on loan, on a short term contract or for the whole season.

If you're going to be bothered about him signing for a rival then the terms of that deal are pretty irrelevant aren't they?

So it turns out they mislead pretty much everyone in this little saga.

Despite the fanfare at the time Lampard only signed a pre-contract agreement for a two year contract with NYFC.

He then signed a 1 year contract with City, which they first publicised as a 3 month loan that would be extended and then that it was a 3 month contract that they extended. The reality was that it was a 1 year deal that they'd previously agreed to terminate when Lampard was due to go back to NYFC.

Not sure how Lampard has got out of the pre-contract agreement with NYFC or why they felt the need to be so secretive about the whole thing.

Could all be PR but Lampard comes out of the interview very well.

I'm sure he could've done the honourable thing and stood by the intention he had when signing instead of agreeing to leave NYFC in the lurch and stay at Man City for another 6 months.

I don't think Frank should be vilified for wanting to play for a big club before he retires and if Chelsea really wanted to keep him he would still be there now warming the bench and coming on for 15 minute cameos at Stamford Bridge.

Lamaprd was a great midfielder. Not quite a gerrard for having the ability to turn a game but he was a top top player.
