Saw a massive twitter spat going on last night with regards to our winner and no-one was stopping that - even at male level. Personally i would be giving my talented son at 11 a stare if he did not get close to that.

Is it true the spanish keeper is 5 foot 7?

Its was a decent strike but nowhere near the corner so you'd expect any pro male keeper to at least have got a hand to it but at 5ft 7 the Spanish keeper didn't have much chance.

The average height of starting goalkeepers in the Women's Super League (WSL) 2021-2022 season is 5ft 8in.

I would have easily saved it, it wasn't even that good a shot. Seen shots like that saved for my Saturday team every game.

That extra reach, plus I think it likelier the male keeper would be a touch further off his line too given the distance out, makes a huge difference with a shot like that. I think the Spanish keeper over stepped to the left too, which also didn't help.

Watched bits of the game having backed England and Spain to be eventual winners both at 9/2.
With England having made the semis on each of the past 4 occasions this was no surprise.

The teams mirrored the men's game, Spain great passing and interplay with England full of effort and determination.

From what I have seen it will be very competitive if it ends up with us, Germany, Sweden and France.

Agreed with RR that the standard has greatly improved although the keepers are all a bit dodgy.
There aren't too many pauses in play with all teams being full-on for 90 minutes and it reminds me more of youth football than the men's game.
Might watch some of the remaining games but not over concerned to miss any of the action if I have something important to do like washing my hair.

It's not like we've seen 7ft keepers dominate the male game. The average 14 year old boy must be somewhere near 5ft 8 these days and U14 are the last age group to use a smaller than full-size goal. Although based on Jnr II's matches very few places have the 21x7 size goals so it's been mostly full-size 24x8 at U13s this season. Keepers have no chance with anything near a top corner.

The winner was superb.

The quality is decent but still some considerable way short of League 2 on a consistent basis

Last night's game was way above L2 Standard. The way both teams could control possession was excellent, and Spain were excellent at overcoming the press.

The big issue with the women's game is disparity; there are only 8 - 10 teams globally of that standard. But that is changing.

I admit I don’t watch Woman’s football but this evening it came on while I was doing other things and I noticed there were four female pundits on the tv.

Do male pundits also cover women’s football on TV?

Ian Wright has been one of the pundits on a couple of the games I've seen, otherwise pretty much an all female broadcasting team

Southampton Academy from U9s upwards have their keepers on a "machine" every 3 months - all for monitoring body growth. 6 foot four inches is the target. If at any time you are below that model, no matter how good you are, they release you.

My lad is playing up a year in grassroots - U13s this season - he is in a full size goal. He looks lost!

My lad is playing up a year in grassroots - U13s this season - he is in a full size goal. He looks lost!

Obvs Jnr II is at a very low level but the amount of teams in his U13 league this year that had one of the smallest players on the team in goal was ridiculously high. They played one team where they had three players who were way taller than me (5ft and the keeper was about 5ft 2. Madness when its full size goals. Made such a difference at the two pitches we played where the goals were the proper 21x7 size.
