Svlad Cjelli The bottom line is that last season the consensus amongst nobbers was that the squad wasn't strong enough and that mid-table would be a good finish, but Brian was happy with the players he had and Brian knew best.

Why should it be that this year the consensus amongst nobbers is suddenly right and the person who sees the squad train virtually every day is suddenly wrong?

It's a decent point but is McDermott really in a position to say anything else?

We had a freakishly good run last season which trust us into the play offs but if the others around us hadn't have had some shocking form as well we might not've been quite so high (our points tally was right up there with previous seasons admittedly, but I do still think it was a bit of a false position).

Yes, I think he is. And I do think that he has got a player or two lined up, but, as is Reading's way, it's being done in the quiet and not through the media.

Glad you agree with me. If you hadn't worked it out, that outrageous post where I accused Madejski of fraud was me playing me hand at WUMing. Out of boredom.

then i offer my apologies for a horrendous over reaction, and subsequent removal of your post

surely thats the whole point of the championship though, all teams will go through bouts of good/bad form,
and thats two seasons in a row we've managed to cobble together a good run to get in/alomost get in teh playoffs

Disappointing news if true, but just as Glen Little showed, sometimes you can just never re-create the magic.

Best of luck anyway Sonks!

Sonko was never one to produce magic!
He was and i'm sure still is a solid, old fashioned centre half. I'm sure he would have got his head on those millwall long balls....

Suspect that Sonko not signing has as much to do with Long going as anything.....

I expect Sonko was a low cost contingency in case the Long deal never happened (hence why it's taken so long to decide not to take him) - expect to see a new defensive signing in the not too distant future...

OK well perhaps not magic as in Little magic, but magic in the sense of inspiring displays at the back and moments of beautiful madness ;)

I'd have signed him if it was a computer game, without a doubt.
If all this is true, then McD will have made the best judgement. He's been on trial for a few weeks, so should have had enough time to prove/ not prove his ability.

Sad to say (considering the player he was before his injury) that he seemed to have found his level at Farnborough.

Shows how focussed Brian is; how easy would it have been to have given a former hero a way back into the club, as well as offering a solution for our CB issue. But nope, Brian takes the right - though tough - decision not to offer Sonks a contract.

Good luck Sonks - all the best for the future.

As if there was ever any doubt that he'd make a balanced and sensible decision that is right for the club/team.

Just spoken to someone who is friends with Sonko - Sonko told him he's been given an offer, and is now waiting for an improved offer from the club...
