If no play at Maidenhead, come on down to Becky SYCOB, pints with your name on for Slough Town vs Potters Bar - I shall also be playing the tall and fat card...

Many thanks for both kind offers :)

... and I trust 'Floyders' made York Rd in time (or not long after)

- roads were absotively ph£(&ed after the match @ MadStad - much as I'd expected - especially around Morrisons/Basingstoke Rd - and neither of my offspring with me this PM, wanted to take in another game after that dross (understandable). I even offered up Fleet Town v Stratford - new grounds for both of them - but they declined - it ended 2-7 ! :?

Eventually made it back home to RG1 at about 15:00  - threw them out the car - having checked on my eldests' iPhone what was on/off - and dashed over to Palmer Pk.

Only missed the first 5 minutes at Griffin Park (& the last minute of injury time at the Mad Stad).

Staines played some decent football & never gave up, but once Brentford had their first there was only going to be one result. They didn't even have to earn it - an obvious handball at a corner giving then an easy penalty (shame Trotta didn't take it).

A consolation goal would have been nice, but here's hoping we can recover quickly & keep our 100% home league record going against Weston-super-Mud on Tuesday.

Still above the drop zone (which is marginally better than normal)....no money..key players out with injuries and smallish crowds even for " the local derbies"

What do the fans and directors of Maidenhead really expect?

Looking on the NLM Forum it seems their is something distinctly odd going on - there have been about half-a-doz 9-4 results around the Pyramid in the last month or so?

...ANYWHICH - from our area but far too deep into the folds of the hardcore Anorak for me to feature - maybe AP will flinch slightly in recognition - but thought it noteworthy to mention a result some of you may have missed from yesterday 8) :

North Berks Football League - War Memorial Cup First Round: Wantage Town 'A' (TWENTY-SEVEN) 27-0 Appleton Stars

- The home side are Wantage Town's 3rds - though part of me wondered if they took advantage of their Firsts' & Ressies matches being rained off to give a few players a run out in the 3rds - I'm sure they wouldn't overdo it - though certainly one name crops up in this season's Firsts squad listing? There were also 10 different goal scorers; including a 9, a 4 and two hat-tricks.
They are currently 2nd in NBFL Div 2 - if the NBFL was still part of the pyramid - which I think it isn't officially, for the first time this year - that would be about STEP09. 'Stars' as they are somewhat ironically named - play down in Div 5 - so roughly STEP12.
They are notorious for being primarily interested in the 'social side' of organised sport. This season in the league they have: Played 7 Lost 7 GD already -47 - Finest result - possibly in recent history was 5-8 defeat vs newly formed Didcot Eagles.
Last season 12-13 'Stars' played 22 lost 21 - drew 1 :) GD -174.
They joined the N.Berks in 09/10 season got nil points from 20 games conceding 204 goals and unsurprisingly were relegated  to Div 5 - perhaps most surprising is that they were placed into Div 4 in their first season!
Following season 10/11 they still finished last but actually won 3 out of 20 :o - sadly just a blip as they reverted to type in 11/12 losing all 18 league matches.

It is admirable that they can turn out every week (nearly - they have been known to 'scratch' occasionally but I assume the league are especially lenient to a fault on their behalf, due to their unwavering goodwill and 'Corinthian-like' spirit) I do intend to get to one of their matches before long - probably 'silly season' April/May next year - although this season they are borrowing Hanney Utd's pitch in East Hanney.

There is no way any club in Berks will touch KS with a barge pole. He has such a poor reputation that goes before him. Just goes to show that having FA Coaching Badges does not mean you are any good.

Got dicked by the weather on Saturday but thankfully found out about 15 minutes after leaving home. That resulted with a dash back towards home and watch the Reading game in the pub 8)

Played against them in their first season in Div 4, we beat them 16-0 as well as missing a penalty because our striker decided to try and chip the keeper. Yeah well done.

It was waterlogged pretty much, they had 9 men and a kit they'd got together because the previous week they'd lost natch and half the team quit and took the kit with them.

They are to be admired that they've kept it going, especially this year as they've been kicked off their pitch due to some unpaid bill or something or other and have managed to organise a temporary solution to continue their weekly massacre's.

There is quite a bit of ill feeling around N Berks clubs towards the likes of Wantage and Abingdon Utd Ressies being in the system, if their players from the 1st/reserves turned up to play appleton then that says more about them than it does about the Appleton lads. Smash them 27-0 score 9 yeah well done.

Fans - mostly, apart from one or two keyboard warriors - fully behind Drax for the reasons highlighted above. He is one of Maidenhead's very best managers ever, they could hardly hope to do better in that department. The chairman, Peter Griffin, luckily is a family guy who fully backs the manager.....can't see Drax leaving any time soon unless of his own volition of course.

Missed the game Saturday as thanks to Reading's diabolical traffic even in securing on the first bus from the stadium I missed the train by seconds so instead headed home to spend my York Road entrance fee on booze 8)

It feels as if Maidenhead have been at that level for ages. To have been so is a remarkable achievement for the club.

BBTL mentioned a month ago that the 1st murmurings of discontent were in evidence from the crowd, since which I think they've lost every game, so I would imagine it might be getting a little uncomfortable for him?

Whenever he's been on BBCRB he sounds like an upbeat decent guy - let's hope he can retain the general support of the fans.
