Another Team In Trouble...

by Reading4eva » 04 Jul 2012 14:02

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... d-eviction

SkySports Gillingham need to find a new training ground after the club were thrown out of their Beechings Cross venue for failing to pay bills.

Medway Council claims the club owed more than £34,000 in unpaid utility bills and charges for using Beechings Cross.

The council said Gillingham have been using the facility "without permission" and considered the club to be trespassing.

They have indicated they will begin legal proceedings if the Gills do not hand back the keys to the ground by Friday.

"The money owed is not a small figure, and it is public money provided by the taxpayer. It would not be right, or fair to taxpayers or those that pay their rent, to ignore this," Alan Jarratt, deputy leader of Medway Council, told BBC Sport.

"We have tried as hard as we can to negotiate with the club and find a way through, but they have failed to talk to us. It is a shame it has come to this."

Doesnt sound at all good down there at the Priestfield... and remember they dont own their ground

Slightly surprised the SPL have actually had the guts to vote against Rangers joining the SPL next year, thought they'd waiver late on

Too many supporters would have withdrawn their ST money had the voting clubs gone against their wishes

Delighted to see there are still some people in football prepared to put principle before potential profit

Surely Rangers going in to Div 3 would be a good thing for all the clubs anyway? Every game would be like a cup tie, Rangers would take loads of fans to all the away games, so the host club would benefit from bumper crowds and it would benefit the entire league structure as all clubs (barring promotion/relegation) would get big pay days in the Rangers games.

This should have happened to the tax dodgers on the south coast.

It will. The chairman will keep them running as long as there are parachute payments to pocket, then he'll pull the plug.

Not really, Celtic have already won the league without kicking a ball in what, for them, will surely be the dullest season(s) in their history. Absolutely nothing to look forward to or play for. The rest will fight for the honour of playing one round of Europa league fixture and to avoid relegation. Gate receipts will be lower, TV revenue will be lower, even fewer quality players will be attracted to scottish football.

It's basically just a mass suicide in return for a few days of LOLZ at Rangers.

Plus the message being sent to other clubs thinking of doing the same sort of thing.

This may be the effect for the clubs in Div 3!

It will not be the effect for the SQL teams.

With the chairmen of these clubs having supported their fans by voting Rangers out, I hope the fans of these clubs now do the chairmen a favour, go to the games and give them increased attendances.

I suspect that with Celtic probably having won the league by November the effect on attendances may be somewhat different.

Why? It's not like any of them ever had a chance of winning the league when Rangers were in it. So how are they less competitive and attractive to watch now they've all moved up a place in the league?

Most teams in the division will start next season with hopes of a place in Europe and given they all beat each other, many will retain that hope right through the season.

Exactly, it's only really Celtic that could be seen to be being disadvantaged here I think. Yes they'll walk the league and have very little of interest to play for, but the rest of the league will have much more to play for in terms of the cups and maybe grabbing one of the UEFA cup spots for the following season. Plus in theory they'll win a few more games a season rather than the usual 2-3 defeats out of 4 to Rangers.

Schards#2 TV revenue will be lower

:|

Surely SPL tv money isn't negotiated on a season-by-season basis? Can't see this being an issue.

Typical of a Tory to put money before principles 8)

The SKY SPL contract is not renegotiated every season, but the contract states 4 Old firm games a season

As a result of the SPL not being able to meet that contractual requirement it will be renegotiated. SKY have confirmed that they have not said they will walk away from the SPL but they will need to renegotiate the contract.
