Sanguine
Loafer Inter Milan backup gk with an utterly callosul oxf*rd up to potentially lose the league for then and win for Milan. (Yes yes I know they should not have lost anyway but thats how the story will be told)

Feel for him, Inter youth graduate and only his fifth appearance for them in six years.

nice quick thinking by the Bologna player to try and get a touch on it before it went over the line

Bordeux in the relegation zone and have 4 games left to save their season.

They are a massive club in France, have won multiple cups and leagues in their time and were champions 13 years ago. Heard a French journo in the week try and give a comparison to English football and he said it would be like Arsenal getting relegated.

Their finances are such a mess that its predicted likely they will go into administration if they go down too so next season may well not be a glorious promotion season back to Ligue 1

3 games to go in Serie A and its down to just the Milan teams now

AC Milan 2 points ahead but Inter with the better GD

Fixtures see AC Milan play the teams in 7th, 9th & 11th with only 1 of them being at home. Inter playing the teams in 14th, 15th & 17th with 2 of them being at home. Inter also have the cup final to play in between those fixtures

1 game to go in Serie B and there are 3 clubs fighting over the top 2 spots on the final day

The top 6 teams all look to have been on terrible form for weeks and its close enough up there that any of those teams could have taken top spot with just a half decent run of form over the last month

Looks like the full 6 teams will take part in the Play offs this year as they are all close enough to 3rd place

Metz bottom, petty much down :x

The ultimate yo-yo club in France, equivalent of West Brom, I'd say.

Have nurtured some great players over the years (Saha, Pires, Ribery, Pjanic......)

Serie B wide open with one game left. Lecce, Monza and Cremonese can all still win the division, with the top two promoted and third place entering the playoffs*. Lecce should be home and dry, they play relegated Pordenone at home. Monza go to Perugia (9th), and Cremonsese travel to Como (12th). Additionally a loss for

Interesting* side note on the playoffs in Italy is that they are fluid - they are cancelled and the team in third promoted if that side finishes ten points or more ahead of fourth. If that isn't the case, between two or six teams enter the playoffs within a 14 point margin of third place, and this season it looks like the full quota of six will be filled.

Italy's version of Sam Allardyce is doing the business at Salernitana

Davide Nicola was previously brought in by Crotone, Genoa & Torino to try and save them from relegation and succeeded with all 3. Crotone's survival apparently becoming a big sporting story over there as they only took 9 points in the first half of the season when he took over, and he announced if they survived he would cycle 1300km across Italy in tribute to his son who had died. They stayed up on the last day and he did his bike trip.

Was appointed Salernitana manager in Feb when they were bottom of the league. 3 wins and a draw from their last 4 games and they are up to 3rd from bottom, 2 points from safety.

They have a game in hand over the others and their 4 games left include 4th from bottom Cagliari and bottom club Venezia.

Salernitana were my original Championship Manager team. I used to have serious beef with Genoa and in particular John van 't Schip, who used to always fcuking score against me.

How early are we talking here? I remember always starting with a Serie B team in CM 99. Would always sign Eddy Baggio in the hope he'd become just a fraction of his more famous namesake.

It was CM2, which was released in 1995 by the looks of it. Although may have been 96/97 season.

I only ever had one version of CM and I think it was 99/00. Martin Palermo became insanely good. Played it to death.

Agree with that, I think a team finishing so far clear of 4th has earned promotion rather than face the possibility of having it all screwed up by going into a lottery with clubs that have failed by comparison. Never happen here though due to the £££££££ from the telly.

And for the record Pisa can still go up automatically (unless it’s Cremonese v Monza on the last day) but they’d have to win well and hope Monza lost badly while Cremonese also lose.

So, for the sake of Puscas, let’s all back Pisa in the playoffs.

Tbf applying the same system in England this season would see the maximum of six sides involved in the playoffs in each division.

Only two instances I can find of a best-placed play-off side being ten points ahead of the next, in the last ten years, is Preston in League One in 2014-15, and prior to that West Ham in the Championship in 2011-12, when we won the league.

Broadly speaking using this system in England would normally actually increase the number of teams involved, and games required.
