Robbie Savage made the same point about calendar year stats on 606 on Saturday evening regarding something to do with Liverpool iirc. Not often I agree with him, but in this case, he's spot on. Calendar year stats are largely irrelevant when everything else is measured on a season by season basis.

Overeation a bit chaps (to the Bony question). It was a way of offering an answer to someone who claimed not to know much about him.

It's just demonstrating that over a year he's scored more goals than anyone else in the league , which is no mean feat in itself.

Playing Devil's Advocate it could also be something of an indicator that as a team's personnel changes more during the summer it shows an abilty to still produce the goods.

Either way, like all stats you can make of it what you will.

Wasn't intended as a dig at you Vision, just seemed an odd stat to give and to me really just indicated his goalscoring numbers over a season cant be all that amazing if the media are choosing to go with the one you put up here.

A bit like someone finishing in a reasonable time for a marathon then getting talked up beyond the winners for their incredible 8-16 mile section.

It's a bit like when Liverpool fans were saying "If the season started near the end of season (2012/2013) they would have won the league last season....

Don't think it's the same though as it's comparing his record alongside everyone elses over an equal time period.

FWIW 16 League goals last season (25 in all comps) and 9 so far this would suggest that aside from the very best (who play for the best sides) his record is pretty impressive in itself.

No-one's suggesting he's as good as Costa or Aguero but he's got a very good record in his own right.

With over two months spent training with MU, it hardly entertains.

I think also that a lot of players, especially at smaller clubs can suffer from a kind of second season syndrome as teams suss them out or get unsettled by interest from bigger clubs. In Bony's case, he's carried on where he left off last season.

That's a terrific signing for Inter, really surprised no bigger clubs were in for him.

Re Bony - and the Shaqiri transfer is somewhat of an antidote to this - it's depressing seeing every player who makes a mark ending up at one of the elite clubs. I know, that's the modern game, and Bony wants to play in the Champions League. But he's also likely to get only 1/2 to 2/3 of the game time at City as he would have at Liverpool or Spurs, who were also interested.

Likewise Odegaard, the Norwegian super-kid, apparently courted by most of Europe's top teams, of course he's on his way to Real Madrid, where he likely won't get a game for 3 or 4 years.

Nature of the game, but it would be good to see talent end up at 'second tier' clubs a bit more.

Reports this morning suggest that Liverpool will be offloading Balatelli and possibly Lambert as well. They've also, apparently, agreed a £3m fee with Lille to bring Origi, their own player, back from his season long loan early.

Also read that a couple of months ago Swansea paid Bony £1m to remove a £19m buy out clause in his contract so they could get more from him in January.

But they will; they will get loaned out by their parent club to a "second tier" club.

I read this week that (and no, its NOT having a dig at them!) Chelsea have 40 players out on loan; that really cannot be healthy for the game.

Parma loaned out 109 players last season
