Wycombe Royal
southbank1871 QPR announce losses of £65.4m for the last financial year and could face a transfer embargo if they don't get promoted, as they will fall foul of the financial fair play rules.

Not this year they won't as the rules don't come into force until the 2013/14 financial accounts are out, which should be after December.

However i can't see them reducing their loss by enough to comply as they have continued paying high wages this season as well. Maybe their owners comapny will come up with a sponsorship deal to boost their revenues by a few tens of millions......

You keep saying they wont, but the footy finance journos are saying they will. Understanding what is what with this FFP is somewhat confusing.

It is effective from the 2013/14 accounts. All these results being reported are from the 2012/13 season. I have seen no journo saying it is from the 2012/13 accounts.

A fine seems a rather farcical punishment for the crime.

Green A fine seems a rather farcical punishment for the crime.

It's only a fine if you are promoted, the argument being you have overspent to gain the riches of the Premier League, so therefore we are going to take some of that money from you. All that will mean is they have less to spend in trying to compete in the top flight thus increasing the potential risk of the being relegated straight back down again....

Thanks for explaining what a fine is.

Can you perhaps explain this promotion system that you mention?

On the plus side, it would mean a nice £2+m payout to the rest of the division for those of us who don't get promoted this season, which should at least go some way to cover part of this season's inevitable "hole"

According to one article I saw the fines are going to charity rather than the clubs who operated within the rules.......

I think the original plan was distribution to the clubs, but the Premier League objected and used the farcically-name "solidarity payment" as leverage. Basically, they didn't want anyone getting to rich in the second tier that could conceivably over the long term, threaten the cosy little cartel that the top 6 in the PL have. FFP in the PL is a joke designed to retain the status quo.

That is absolutely priceless. It shows how inherently flawed the professional game is run in this country.

I take it you you think allowing clubs to "chase the dream" is a much better way of running things?

No. Where did I say that? My point is that the fact that Man City - with over £200m losses in the last 2 years - have already found a way to circumvent the FFP rules for next year suggests that if they can do it the others in the top 6 almost certainly will too rendering the rules toothless and pointless. But of course the PL (abd Uefa) will say they are doing their bit knowing full well they are keeping the rich clubs happy.

Money has destroyed the game and it is retaining those riches which is now as important as the football, if not more so.

Sanguine League 1?

It was definitely League 2 when we played in it, just like it was Division 3 in 1986.

Papers today suggesting Chris Powell could get QPR job if Saggy leaves. WTF? Chris Powell? Is that the best they can do?

We've never played in League 2. Before 2004-05 the third tier of English football was called Division 2.

Agreed. It wasn't named League 1 when we were in it either. We came out just as Division 1 was renamed The Championship.

5 points from 21 is pathetic for a team with that squad, who were promotion favourites and in a position of strength in January.

They're not far off dropping like a stone.

Shame.

Reporter at the Amex said on 5 Live that Saggy started shouting at a QPR player to get warmed up and got quite annoyed when he ignored him.

Turns out the player he was shouting at was the mascot and he had to be told so by someone on the QPR bench. tbf the mascot apparently looked a bit like Assou-Ekoto, but he was already on the pitch.
