Doubt there will be a conclusion in the near future. Will be very interesting to watch and see what happens, though.

Can’t help thinking that they’ll use the private business route to justify whatever expenditure they want. (i.e. we’re a private limited company so our investment can be whatever we deem appropriate to our business)
Could be the end of FFP if they succeed … a potential Bosman moment

Now we will doubtless witness the one law for little tinpot clubs like Reading (and even Derby) and the other for the big PL boys like Man City. If found guilty will they be deducted points and face several seasons of transfer embargos?

Would that get out carry any weight when they've broken PL rules, which are clear and explicit about what has to be reported on and that this must be an accurate reflection of the reality?

The PL can afford a whole team of highly-skilled forensic accountants, based in plush offices in central London, and they are (unofficially) happy to use slightly dodgy investigators to uncover information not in the public domain. They are fully funded and look after the financial affairs of 20 clubs.

The FL's financial compliance department is a couple of blokes sitting being a desk in an office on an industrial estate in Preston. They look after the financial affairs of 72 clubs.

Just another example of the imbalance in football - the PL is loaded, the FL is skint and reliant on handouts from the PL.

They allegedly haven't broken any laws, they have breached the rules of a competition they freely signed up to. If they have breached those, then they should be penalised in accordance with the PL rules they signed up to.

Man City can and will defend themselves and may well win but no one is denying them the right to trade as they like but the PL also has the right to not allow them in their competition.

I imagine there will a deduction enough to ensure no CL football for a year or two and everyone will move on.

Wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea think they are in danger too, so getting their shopping in whilst they can.

Yeah, bound to be drawn out as City’s lawyers maximise as much wriggle room as they can and it’ll all end up at the CAS like it did with UEFA’s case. It’ll be this time next year at least before they take some pathetic monetary fine or something. At least the PL had the sense not to include a time bar on any alleged offences.

Personally think a very harsh view should be taken including stripping them of any honours won during the alleged period plus a very heavy fine and mega points deduction during whichever season it eventually all comes to an end in. Need to make proper examples when these sorts of things occur.

If they're guilty, kicking them out the PL and not allowing them into the FL or Conference seem about right.

But they beat the UEFA case so expect the same here I guess.

Part of the issue with UEFA’s case was their stupid time bar that applied to some of the charges. Hopefully the PL not having that will make it very difficult for City to argue their way out of things and IF they are finally found guilty the punishment will be more than just a pathetic (for a club like City) monetary fine.

Apparently the Premier League rules mean that they can't appeal to CAS, which is interesting. I'm sure they'll still find a way to get away with it, but it'll have to be down a different route.

20k, 200k, 2 million, 20 million will be of no concern to them.

Hard points deductions and serious embargoes is what they won’t get

Exactly. The EPL don't have the balls to do it. They want to protect their brand. Meanwhile 3 years and a season of crippling restrictions for us for overspending a bit (compared to them) and the EFL ruin us.

But why won't they take the view that fair competition without financial irregularities is essential to their brand?

See my post above re the difference between the PL & FL...

I doubt this will be resolved this season, any points deduction would be next season IMO

Shame the PL isn’t run by the National League or one of the leagues below that, seems you only have to be seen to make one administrative or financial error down there and the offender is immediately relegated/mega-seriously fined and/or expelled/expunged from existence even if the error is as a result of that league’s own stupid decision making.
