Lampard not squeky clean either, had his lita moment in 2000. And pissed off the yanks after 9/11.

Great player though, and one of the best over the last fifteen years

I don't really care one way or another but I find it strange that cousin Jamie and other pundits cannot see that from Chelsea's perspective to offer a 2 or 3 year contract to a 34 (?) year old on say £120,000 per week is fraught with potential problems.
Assuming that Chelsea were a properly run business ( big assumption)then an outlay of £18 million over the next 3 years on an ageing player represents poor value and for every Giggs and Scholes there are so many more (cousin Jamie is a good example)who are crocked and too slow to make a full contribution.

Watching the Everton game it totally passed Fat Frank by in the first 20 minutes.
An exceptional goalscorer over the years but presumably Chelsea feel that the likes of Hazard,Mata,Ramires and Oscar will get the goals and contribute so much more in terms of speed in attack as well as the young Brazilian who looks a star in the making.
With Luiz and/or Mikel playing the defensive midfield role Chelsea appear to feel that Lampard is now not needed but blinkered fans only often look at the here and now rather than the furure-somebody else playing in his role v Everton might well also have scored 2 or even more.
The other point is that Lampard appears to be the sort that wants to play every game but Chelsea have an exceptional array of midfielders that he won't be automatically selected so to pay him big wages to sit on the bench is not good business.
I also get the impression that Abramovich wants to break up the old trio of Cole,Terry and Lampard and get a manager managing rather than these players running the show.

As I said earlier,I don't really care what Chelsea do but I do see the position from the club's perspective which none of the blinkered pundits seem to be doing and most of the comments about Lampard apply to Cole although Cole is already showing signs of physical deterioration despite being younger.

Agree on the club's perspective Vic, it might make sense for say Liverpool to tie Gerrard to a 2 or 3 year deal with relatively few options but Chelsea have a massive squad and that is a big outlay on a player who may be surplus to requirements by the end of the season or this time next.

Surprised tbh on behalf of both parties that a one-year deal doesn't seem to be on the table, he remains a very good player.

Isn't there a suggestion that the added complication is that 'the club' (or rather Abramovich) are looking to move these old heads out in order to create a fresh dressing room dynamic because of the issues they created for previous managers.

They thought they ran the club, but now they're finding out where the real power lies and for the next manager to stand a real chance they think these players need to be moved out the way.

I'd say that's the most perceptive thing published about it for a long time. The Terry/Lampard "power-base" has caused real problems for past managers.

First big mistake by Benitez in playing 34 year old veteran twice in a few days when Mr Perpetual Motion Ramires and young Mata were on the bench?

A penalty when he came on as sub-the younger players had won the game for Chelsea by then so the old boy could come on and get a bit of glory.
BTW on the radio this morning his agent has apparently said that Frank will definitely not be getting a new contract offer in the summer so do you reckon he will be off elsewhere now and if so where?

Never been a Fwank admirer, but CFC are shitting all over him with this. I hope he goes somewhere else and does a Denis Law on them next season to send them down.

Why do you hate both clubs? Surely there is more to hate about Liverpool than pretty much any other club in the Country?
