From Despair To Where?

Ain't nothing but mistake.

Just one question? Who have they actually signed?

WestYorksRoyal Al-Hilal bid €300m for Mbappe :o . No doubt will offer obscene wages too.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Moving there at the end of your career like Ronaldo is one thing, but Mbappe should have another decade at the top competing for all the biggest prizes. Can eye watering money convince him to give that up? I hope not.

Talk of €700m on a single season contract.

And it would allow him to move to Real Madrid on a free at the end of the season - so Al-Hilal would spend €1bn on him for a single season.

Pure economic insanity.

He's gotta take it hasn't he? If it's only for a season it's a no brainer.

If a big bid wasn't forthcoming this summer from a club he wants to join and this deal also means he walks away on a free next summer then it may make sense for all involved

If he does go, can’t imagine he’ll be much use to Real Madrid after a year playing in Saudi.

Not sure Monsieur Mbappé is taking this Saudi Arabia thing too seriously.

I'm surprised this news hasn't been commented on:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66063431

"Wilfried Zaha has joined Galatasaray on a three-year deal after his Crystal Palace contract expired.

The 30-year-old will be paid a signing-on fee of 2.35m euros (£2m) and an annual salary of 4.35m euros (£3.75m), the Turkish club said."

I'm very surprised he went there and on those wages (£3.75M is £72K a week; Palace were offering him £200K a week......) I would have thought he was a shoe in to one of the Saudi clubs for stupid money (for example, I don't think Jordan Henderson if worth a salary 10 times more than Zaha).

Was just about to post about Zaha, does seem like an odd move.

Maybe he's just a massive fan of Efes Pilsner?

Zaha, one of those footballers that hasn't had the career that they should have had.

Zaha was the guy who paid the annual wage bill of the Crystal Palace ladies team so that they could keep playing. I know that's not a lot of money, but maybe Zaha just not motivated by it any more, given how much he has of it.

Maybe he simply wants a new challenge - the Turkish league will provide that much more than the Saudi league. Galatasaray are in the Champions League qualifiers, so European football is probably a draw too.

My paper shop Galatasaray fan is delighted with the signing especially as Fenerbahce are making significant signings.
He thinks that the allure of European football was an important factor.

Big club, good money, champions league club, club that should be competing for the title next season. I think it's a pretty good move for him.

By my shoddy calculations the low tax rate in Turkey means his earningsnover there are around £11M over 3 years compared to £17m staying here on £200,000 a week.

Also I previously bored on about sponsorship deals automatically changing if you switch clubs to one that has a different kit manufacturer. Can make a big difference in earnings.

Signed a contract with a £80m release clause. Priced himself out of a move. I think a team like Spurs could have been convinced to pay £50m.

Just checked and he is personally sponsored by Nike and is moving from a club who don't wear a Nike kit to one that do. That'll help make up some of the difference in wages.
