Thing is, there has always been a law in football that states something along the lines that a player shall be dismissed from the field of play for the use of foul and/or abusive language. Problem is, this law is only ever applied on park pitches. I am yet to see a player dismissed for this in all the years I have been watching football. Dissent attracts a caution and still very few cautions are dished out for this. The FA could nip this in the bud very easily but they know that the majority of pro footballers only play football because they lack the basic level of intelligence to get a normal job. Hence expecting the likes of Rooney to inquire politely about anything is as likely as Keira Knightly being found naked in my bed.

The media have overreacted because you will never stop Footballers or any Sportsmen from swearing, the pressure is just too high, but very rarely do players look straight down a camera and shout abuse.

The FA should've acted before on Rooney and ignored Paul Stretfords threats to stop Rooney doing England promotional work but hopefully they'll start as they mean to go on. Perhaps if someone had got to Gascoigne earlier instead of giving him that ridiculous nickname that he felt he had to live up to he wouldn't be in the state he is now.
