Feel a bit sorry for the Sheff U subs coming on at halftime 0-6 down.

Isn't it an unwritten rule that if its 5-0 at HT then the game ends up being 6-1 or summat?!

I don't think I've ever seen a stadium empty that much at half time.

That's the 4th home game in a row that Sheffield Utd have conceded at least 5

They have to be the worst team in PL history on watching them

6ft Kerplunk Have there been two Premier League teams as bad as Sheff United and Burnley in the same season before?

Was thinking that. I remember some real dross in the mid 90's. Swindon Town being the worst.

Until we reached the next century and Derby said ‘hold my beer …’

Not since West Ham last conceded in the first half at home anyway....

Yeah, I don't remember Derby being this awful.

Arsenal the first team in English football league history to win three consecutive away games by five goals or more.

I would imagine not many teams have lost three in a row at home by that margin either, as Sheffield United have now done.

tbf I was young when they were crap (Derby) but I never ever remember a team in any league getting absolutely battered as much as Sheff United

they honestly are a disgrace to football

Derby had 9 results in which they conceded 4 or more goals in their terrible PL season.

6-0
6-0
6-1
6-2
5-0
5-0
4-0
4-0
4-1

Shef Utd so far this season have had 6 (but with just under a 3rd of the season still left I guess thats about the same as Derby)

8-0
6-0
5-0
5-0
5-0
5-0

Derby won 1 game all season whereas Shef Utd have won 3 so far. Derby scored 20 goals all season but Shef Utd have so far scored 22. Goals conceded Shef Utd are currently on track to concede more, around 100 in total I think.

Stats only tell you part of it of course, and its the manner in which they play and lose that really counts. But I would be tempted to say Derby were worse than this Shef Utd.

Everyone knows that Swindon are the only team to let in 100 goals in a PL season but that was in a 42 game season, same when Ipswich let in 93 the following season.

In terms of the now standard 38 game season, the record is held by that Derby side, who let in 89 - which averaged 2.34 goals per game. Sheffield United are currently letting in 2.66 GPG. Given they still have to go to Anfield, Old Trafford & St James' Park, you would imagine they will set a new benchmark for awful defending this year.

And then probably get promoted next.

And Sheffield United went down with Swindon that season too! At the end of the day it's the points talky that denotes the worst team and that's Derby who have a ppg of approx 0.289 whereas the worst ppg Sheffield United can have is approx 0.342 if they lose every league game that they have left this season.

Championship is crazy this year. Just look at that table. A record number of points will be required to stay up this year.

Watford in 12 on 44 points are only 2 straight defeats away from being caught by team sat in 23rd. Crazy.

I think it just shows that below the top 4, it is an incredibly mediocre division.

The playing records of the majority of the clubs backs that up. Only the top 9 clubs have actually won more games that they've lost.

Every club from 10th down has lost at least 2 more games than they've won to date. Sunderland, in 10th, have already lost 17 games (won 14)

Amazing stuff from Shef Wed who looked dead and buried a while back. unfortunately they have Leeds and Ipswich next so that good run will probably come to an end.

Their young German manager may be offered some better jobs in the summer

'scanning' might just have overtaken 'goal involvements' as my most hated thing in all of football

Agree, they have done amazing. Equally QPR have put up a brilliant fight. Smart managerial changes. Stoke look absolutely stuck and they could be the biggie that falls, Plymouth also looking stale and getting dragged back in after pushing away 10 games ago.

I really hope Sunderland's current abysmal run sees them pulled into it. Sadly they are probably just 3 or 4 points far enough out of it for that to be a realistic thing
