Pleat and McCarthy. Bright is almost as bad as Birtles.

Agreed on McCarthy.

Although Beglin's also been much better than usual (presumably because Liverpool aren't playing).

McCarthy, brilliant and a bonus point for contradicting everything he says with his Wolves tactics.

Martin Keown is poor

McCarthy. Mostly for calling them tarts and going off on one at the feigning of injuries.

Haven't actually caught much of the WC, but I watched the second half of the game on BBC1 y'day evening. Can anyone explain who the hell thought Martin Keown would be a decent co-commentator?

Anyway, I've gone for McCarthy, as in the one match I've seen that he's done he spoke more sense that all the rest put together.

Regardless of the co commentators at least you can understand what they're saying.
Has it been mentioned about the tokenism shown by both channels by plonking a black bloke in the middle of the summarisers?
Just cos it's in SA.

Doesn't look/sound ridiculous at all!

If I didn't know who Adebayor was I'd think they'd gone on to the street and just picked up the first black man they came across.

"But they won't undertand him, Mr Producer"

"Doesn't matter, Wilkins, he's the right colour"

not to mention the fact that they've got as much to do with South Africa as old repeats of Steptoe and Son have. might just as well have had a big racist white bloke telling all and sundry how much he hates poofball, would be closer to modern-day RSA

David Pleat, for the simple reason that he knows more about football than anyone else.

and for his kerb crawling anecdotes.

Agree totally about the token black studio guests strategically placed in the middle of the "three wise men" style pundit layout. Adebayor is really awful and needs subtitles to be understood and if Gary could pull his trousers down and suck his mate "manny" off I am sure wood.

Do like MMc and David Pleat (is a pervert).

Adebayor left a couple of days ago IIRC.

I like David Pleat on 5Live actually - can never quite fathom why but I guess he seems to talk about the intricacies of football more than a lot of pundits who trot out a mixture of the blindingly obvious and trite cliché.

I don't like McCarthy's voice, but he's something a bit different I must say. Plus he can add a bit of insight through managing players who are actually at the WC like Hahnemann and Milijas.

I don't think the shitness of Edgar Davids requires any further comment.

Going home early, like the rest of the Africans at this WC.

Probably has to go back to pre-season training at City where he will pretend to be a top footballer again next year.

To be fair to McCarthy, he's usually a pretty honest and unpretentious interviewee as a manager so it's no shock for him to be the same as a pundit.
