Exeter Management connections...

by jonnyroyal1871 » 14 Apr 2009 03:21

Strong talk at St James park Exeter tonight about the future of impressive young manager Paul Tisdale, who is on the verge of taking the Grecians into Div 1, having brought them up from the conference last year. They play sublime football, he has bought shrewdly, on a small budget using a mixture of experienced pros (Marcus Stewart, Rob Edwards etc) and mixed them with youngsters from way down the non league ladder. (Team bath, Weston Super Mare etc) and use of the loan system. The board of society that run the club know that he, and at least a couple of there better players (Dean Moxey and Liam Sercombe) will move onto better things things this summer, regardless of promotion.

Dolan, much loved in Exeter btw, does not have enough experience to step straight into first team management, and it comes from a very reliable direct source that Director Of Football Julian Tagg has had conversations this week with Nicky Hammond.

The strong word is that a deal is on the cards for Tisdale to be our new boss, and Dolan to be his number 2, if we don't muddle our way through the play off's, and stay in the championship.

Couldn't agree more. I heard Ipswich were sniffing in January, but he is a hometown lad from Pinhoe, and any away move will be a big one for him. Great player, I would say at championship level now, and captaining Exeter yesterday.

Massive home win over Wycombe, back to back promotions looks very possible now..

All this with a selling club mentality, relying on non-league signings, loans and youth players

I watched Exeter whenever I can as member of my family are from there and support them. Went to Brentford on Saturday and they play some very good stuff. Yeah Dean Moxey is a good footballer and if they do go up then they may stuggle to keep hold of him. Promotion is looking good atm especially after yesterdays result.

source?
tisdale's record looks good and he's done wonders at exeter but unless coppell IS going then why would nicky hammond go behind his back and negotiate a new manager?
we still may get promotion.

As my OP stated, conversations have taken place, on the proviso that we stay in the championship. My source is impecable, directly from the ECFC board of society. It was a popular topic on Saturday night, as you might imagine. I don't think anybody is going behind anybody's back, I think SSC leaving at the end of the season, either outcome, is a formality. The club are making plans thats all.

Most organisations try to have some kind of succession plan

If Coppell is going to leave in the summer Hammond and the board will aleady know about it

Interesting speculation though

As pretty much made-up rumours go, this is a good one.

Very interesting.

Well, if the rumour is made up row z, it certainly isn't by me. Its a combination of what I overheard, and conversations I was directly party to, and some summision by my good self!

I think that the club will have a number of feelers out at the moment with regard to the management structure from next season on. I think that significant change is likely, regardless of which division we are in come August. As an aside, I don't especially feel that such change would be right imho.

I've heard about this bloke. He's a big cravate wearer apparently - a dapper fellow.

Alan Partridge NO FANKS

You would LOVE him at Torquay, absolutely LOVE him

Interesting, although I will take this with the massive pinch of salt it deserves. With Tisdale's previous connections to, and affection for, Southampton, it will be them that he walks to next probably.

I'm off to Exeter this weekend for their match against Morecambe. Arranged weeks ago, never thought I'd be in with a chance of seeing a promotion party 8)

Is there any update on this? I have backed Tisdale at 16-1 on the strength of it!
