Spike Armstrong Question ?

As an exile, we get 90% of our Reading FC match media via 107FM and the god-awful PremierTV / "Player" internet set-up ...

It only fully dawned on me quite recently that David Armstrong - the current Royal Box "expert" commentator - is Spike, formerly of Middlesboro, Southampton and England.

Question - does he / did he have any Royals connection I didn't know about ?

I think he was in charge of our community scheme in the early 90s. I certainly remember it be someone called Armstrong with Southampton connections so it's probably him.

He was our community officer in the mid 90's and I believe he was also one of those appointed as caretaker manager for the Wolves game after McGhee left!

He was known as Spud though, not Spike.
Was definitely running the Community Scheme bit IIRC not employed by the club but by the PFA. Had a tiny office in the old North STand with no windows and about enough room to breathe out !

Was a decent ball winning midfielder at Saints.
