Hoop Blah We do, it's what Ingimarsson is doing in the first team at the moment isn't it?

We kept Gunnarsson on this year, presumably for something similar.

We usually have senior pro's playing for the ressies and we now have a lot more coaches involved in the junior teams than we ever did in those days. Those coaches are doing the same kind of job, albeit only from the sideline and on the training ground.

But invariably, the junior coaches and the like would not have had long pro playing careers. It's about having some old hands in the reserves rather than the first team. The first team is not the place to go round wiping noses and the like. I would be more than happy if we had the likes of Murts and Parky working behind the scenes with the possibility of bringing in Boris and Ivar when the time is right - if they were interested.

TBF, I thought his knee injury had crocked him for the whole of the season and he probably wasn't playing again - not sure where I got that from. Even so, this must surely be his last season as a player - time to bring him back behind the scenes then?

The reserves is the place though, and these days you get lots of senior pro's playing for the ressies and passing on that experience. That didn't used to happen so much in the past because players careers would stop earlier.

Over the last few years we've had the likes of Ingimarsson, Duberry, Viveash, Gunnarsson, Makin, De La Cruz, Newman, Smith, Goater, even Keown and Ferdinand briefly.

I know where your coming from, and agree a couple of old heads around has to help the youngsters development, I just think we already do it.

To be honest I think you tend to see less pros playing for the reserves and that is a big problem.

I will admit that it is more so at the higher levels.

I agree that we have done it in the past HB but who do we have now?
1. Boris
2. Errrrr....

The likes of Howard, Stretch, Hunt will use the Ressies for match practice and would expect to be in the first team sooner rather than later. Probably too much of a luxury to have a couple of players purely with the development of younger players in the reserves in mind.

Gunnarsson chases move from Madejski

The Reading midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson is interested in a move away from the Royals in January. The Iceland international has found himself out of favour since the arrival of manager Brendan Rogers, making only ten appearances in all competitions. Gunnarsson's agent admits the versatile midfielder could move next month to find regular first-team action. "There is interest for Brynjar, but we will see what happens in January," his agent said.

Agent talk probably, but doesn't give an impression of a dressing room that believes in itself does it?

Bryn has to be my favourite utility player of the past decade.

Acquired for peanuts, fitted in to any role, scored some great goals at crucial times (you do the research.....whilst I retain my fond memories), solid, and his wife aint bad either...........(a big part of the Royal Family...a now seemingly defunct charity wing of our WAGS).

At the risk of turning this into a slanging match.............."Boris" (the player that has been continually slated here) has contributed more to the team in recent seasons than many (including, our precious golden child czech) will ever do.

Yes, age is catching up on the body parts, but when the brain is still active......you aren't vertically dead.

Bon voyage Bryn.......should you get to the greener side, hope to see you back some day.

I think we're playing Ivar out of sentimentality and on reputation. I'd rather he was back up and no more.

Great players in their day, but their day is sadly gone (going).
