A merry-go-round of cut-price deals should start up in a couple of weeks' time.

Clubs with players on contracts that are superfluous to regular 1st team requirements are going to be available for bugger-all fees just so a wage can be removed from the books.

Hard ball is definitely the game to play here.

Presumably if he's got no future at Stoke and we're interested in his services it makes some sense to invite him to our pre season training even if its no more than to have a general chat and run the rule over him medically etc.

Well, Jay isn't going to get his wish as we've already dropped the idea of signing Khiz because he'll cost us £100,000+.

Griffin will also cost us £100,000+ so I'm not sure where Kitson12's small fee and a free come from!?

Not a great deal seeing as we said we wouldn't be pursusing Khiz because his fee was going to be six figures. Then Griffs fee is reputed to be six figures. so £100,000+
Blackburn's new stance suggests that they are willing to drop the asking price to get Khiz off the books.

RFC hard ball on fees appears to be paying off.

1) I don't think Blackburns stance has changed at all, they wanted to get rid of him a few weeks back when we were talking to them, now they've just gone a bit more public about it. Wanting him out the door doesn't equate to changing the fee they'd already put on his head (when they already knew they didn't want/need him).

2) £100k might be too much for the club to spend on Khizanishvili but that doesn't mean it's too much to spend on Griffin.

Guess this thread needs to be moved unless it's morphed into a Khiz one. By the way, it looks like we got Griffin for less than £100k, so I guess we're holding out for a similar cut price deal for Khiz - all it'll take is for Blackburn is to sign another defender and they'll practically give him to us, unless someone else is happy to pay for him before that.

i think going public saying the player wants to go, and we want him to go, will definitely have the effect of driving price down, unless there are other clubs involved

Would thoroughly agree with point 2, it was a point I considered making earlier but decided not to bother.

I can see point 1 either way. You could certainly read into it that they are more determined to get him off the books and in helping him find another club may drop their price. Or alternatively it's just something to get him in more clubs eyesight and nothing has changed... a point I believe I have alluded to elsewhere.
