StrandedWestYorksRoyalHound First priority is getting out of the division, and buying a player with potential won’t help us as much right now
I’m sure the profile of player we look at in the summer will be different- we brought in MoM, Burns, DK, Jacob, even Fraser who could have all fitted that young enough to get better category last time. Not easy to do in Jan
Probably fair. If we keep this run of form going, expect the "do we want to get promoted?" debate to start in March. We'd find it really hard this year, whereas maybe an extra year would help. You'd still take it though. When Bolton lost the play off final in 2023 I was convinced they would go up last season and be ready, but if anything they've regressed. You take the opportunity when you can.
Always, always aim for promotion and worry about the squad then rather than planning for a year or two down the line - there are so many unknowns and intangibles that can knock a club back that you should always be looking to progress now.
The club will already be working on recruitment plans for all potential outcomes.
If you don't build for the future next season is always a panic to do ok.
Coppell had it right. A blend of pragmatic short term signings like Owusu, and lots of signings with the potential to grow into the side or go further with us.
We're building very short term right now, and we're going to need half a squad every season if we carry on this way. That's not sustainble financially, and requires too many of your signings to be a hit.
Beggars can't be choosers... but right now we can compete for some of the best signings in the division. No chance of that in the Champinship if we get lucky enough to go up.
You give pronotion the best shot you can each season... but you build your squad with a longer term view.
All our success is really built on those relegation signings that followed proper longer term squad building. Savage, Wing, Knibbs, Smith, Bindon, Pereira, re-signing Mbengue.
