Rumour- return of the Mc…… intyre

by linkenholtroyal » 14 Jan 2026 20:16

Have heard we are looking into a return, Portsmouth happy to let him go. Just had his loan cut short from Bradford. Looking mainly due to his versatility and ability to also play Left Back.

Skeptical about this one...but if this and Santos are true, surely 3-5-2 is on the cards? LR won the league playing it at Wigan, with Keane up front too. Plus O'Connor played in it at Lincoln and was one of the best in the league.

No thanks. Nothing against him, but too injury prone.

Yeh, great guy, but too slow and made of glass.

On a free....absolutely - versatile and easily good enough for this level.

Wrap him in cotton wool though :D

No. Thank. You. The guy is dog shit. Him and holmes well end up at Farnborough Town when their contract run out. Both have been absolute disasters everywhere they’ve been.

If a cheap loan for cover for the rest of this season then wouldn’t be against it particularly. Wouldnt exactly be an exciting signing though

Love him, but its a no from me too.

Could you get a slower combination than O'Connor, Burns, McIntyre? Not that you'd get that combination for many games, admittedly.

This. Don't mind him coming in as cover, as he can play CB; LB; and DM. Wouldn't want him back permanently though.

Good God NO!

One of the pair of the most disastrous CBs for RFC in living memory.

It’s a no from me. I just want a proper young LB with pace. There’s one at Bromley who’s been mentioned on x and he sounds decent.

Realistically, a team in a promotion race will not want to sell starting players in January, so we'd have to pay way over the odds.

I'm not sold on McIntyre either, but we're looking at cast offs and loans from above, not top players from lower down. Those ones become available in the summer dependent on circumstances like contract duration etc. If Bromley stay in L2 then maybe they accept the need to sell a couple of key players at a fair price.

No harm in looking at him if he's available but would be surprised if he is near the top of our list.

If he signs, imagine it would be late in the window and mainly as a squad option - as said, would cover CB/LB/DCM.

If, as per Brogue, Santos is off then I can see why this might be appealing to the club though - cheap, knows the club and a younger option than Santos.

Santos,O'Connor and D.Williams as your 3 in the middle, now if they kept injury free that's a solid wall (although slightly slow)
