strap I said at the time it was an utter nonsense letting him go for £200k or whatever it was.

Sir Steve needs to put this bit of business alongside his Paul Brooker, Jimmy Kebe and Emerse Fae failures.

Good luck to the lad, but how I wish he'd stayed. GOing to come back and bite us in the bum one day.

£1m on an unknown quantity for a prem club is nothing. If the likes of Fulham, Bolton or whoever are interested then fair play to all concerned. I for one will not lose any sleep over what might have been. Mind, the volley against Walsall is a bit on the tasy side. - se the you tube link inside the 442 link.

CMRoyal Amazed that Prem clubs are looking at him before he's even proven himself in the Championship. He could just be a flat track bully like Bobby Zamora.

Although Zamora has been a decent enough squad player at the level he's managed to get to

That's ridiculous. It wasn't so long ago that Leicester cheated by going into administration to avoid paying for their stadium while going for promotion. How do they have £2m to spend on players?

That's got to be over 4 years ago and since then they've been getting decent enough gates and have probably got rid of a few of their highest earners from last season in the Championship - £2m really isn't a huge amount in the grand scheme of things and who's to say that it's all up front?

No consolation for the many people owed money and paid a fraction of what they were owed. Can they now claim some of this alleged £2m? (OK. I already know the answer to this.... )

BBC Sport Swindon chief executive Nick Watkins has warned clubs interested in buying striker Simon Cox that they will need to stump up "well over" £1m. West Bromwich Albion and Leicester are the latest teams linked with a move for the 27-goal striker. Watkins told BBC Radio Swindon that Cox will not leave on the cheap. He said: "The value of Simon is well over £1m. "If a Premier League side was to make a sensible offer we'd have to consider it and Simon's ambitions." Cox is under contract to Swindon for another year and would still command a fee after that as he is only 21. The club are keen to hang onto their striker, but Watkins knows a record of 42 goals in 82 games has alerted much bigger teams. "There is always going to be speculation about someone of his talents playing in League One when he could play in the Premier League. "There are no offers on the table at this stage, but there have been more scouts at the County Ground in the last few weeks than at a jamboree," he added.

If we don't go up and Doyle, Kitson, Lita all go then I hope we resign Cox as a replacement. The only worry is that he would be another Billy Sharp.

They've made less mistakes than most with transfers, but this club really f*cked up when they let Cox go. It was obvious at the time and it's even more obvious now. I hope they negotiated a decent percentage for future transfers. Maybe why Swindon are saying that want at least £1m.

What is it about league 1 being weaker than either the premier league or championship that you do not understand?

At this moment in time our problem is not so much scoring goals as creating the chances for goals to be scored. You could have a mythical forward line of Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean, Ian Rush AND SIMON COX and the simple fact of life is that if you dont create the chances you won't score goals. Gerd Muller would struggle to score for us at the moment.

What is it about Coxy is tearing that league apart and could do with a harder challange / step up that YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND?

Swindon arn't exactly creating the best chances for Coxy, but he is scoring and creating the chances himself. If Doyler / Hunt / Long / Lita were playing with HALF the enthusiasm and desire as Coxy, we'd be top. I don't blame them, you correcly point out the service, but if we had that good a service, then you or I could score those goals we are so desperatly missing.

I also don't remember him stating he could re-create that form for Premiership teams, just that we oxf*rd up, and he's right, we did.

Theres currently something about Coxy right now, and it's richly deserved.

He wasn't given a good enough chance here. Didn't you see him in that cup game against Spurs? He wasn't even playing in a striker position - but he was utterly brilliant and had speed. He went because we let him go as we'd told him he wasn't going to get first team football. We won't bring him back here. He's certainly, to my mind, the one that got away. I'm not saying he would have scored 20 odd goals for us this season, but he's got speed, he's got passion and he loved this club. And sometimes, that determination to do well for your home town club spurs you on. Instead he has had the determination to prove Reading wrong for selling him, so good luck to him for the future.

Isn't this the Nathan Tyson argument all over again. If Cox was at RFC now would he get on the bench ahead of Doyle, Kitson, Hunt, Long, Lita? Would he get on the pitch? Would he feel interested enough or feel that he could get 1st team football or would he be out on loan. This is football, some you win and some you lose, Sidwell and Harper could have been Arsenal reserves indefinitely but dropped down because they had something to prove at a lower league club - Cox has backed himself to show RFC that they were wrong to let him go, he won't be the first or last to try - good luck to him and thanks for the sell on fee).

Spot on with the last two posts, you cannot keep a player on the sidelines indefinitely, players coem, and players go, cox may have well have made it at RFC, but he wanted to play and made his move, if it works out for him then well done him. had he stayed he might be sat on the bench, playing reserve teaM FOOTBALL, AND NOT GETTING THAT BUZZ THAT REGULAR FIRST TEAM GAMES CAN BRING.

Royal Lady For the sake of £200k, we should have kept him on

And how many other support staff should we have made redundant to cover the 200k shortfall?
With respect, if we worried about getting the £200k so we could cover the pay of some support staff - we could have sold Lita for over a million instead.

tried but nobody wanted him

Sheffield United wanted him, albeit I don't think it was for a million quid. We accepted the offer, Leroy turned it down.

Beacause Leroy would be in a stronger position to negotiate a bigger wedge as no transfer fee would be involved upon his contract expiring. Plus... do you want to live in Sheffield?

Slight problem being that bid was made 12 months after Cox had left the club.

But they offered him pitiful terms that he'd never accept - it was a spoiler to appease their fans about selling Beattie to Stoke.
