retro_royal W_R I disagree slightly because i'd maybe want experienced talent over just talent in a position like goal , after all you don't win anything with kids.

If only we had used this view before putting Karacan in the team..................ohh.

Look at Hart at Man City. Quality always shines through.

I knew you'd bring up Karacan , I said a position like goal. Mind you TBF i'd settle for anone who had better kicking than Marcus!

Forget the others Ben Hamer is our next number one. Sell Fed to Southend, Hamer is a much better prospect and at a younger age has more league experience than Fed, plus he's been schooled at a league club where Fed went out of the leagues.

All in all I reckon Hamer has the better future and is younger. Lets not foget he's part of the best defence in the football league and is not prone to as many howlers as Fed.

He also isn't an Aussie.

This bit is a very good point.

Hamer does look a decent keeper and the stats speak for themselves. I wouldn't mind Lee Camp joining but i can't see it, Federici at least deserves the chance when Hahnemann is moved aside, ditto Hamer.

There is absolutely no chance Mikkel Andersen will be Reading's number 1, Ever. But the other two look fairly decent. Federici just needs games, he's 23/24 and barely played any football. I think it's naieve to say he isn't good enough nor will he be number 1, when Coppell rates him exceptionally highly and he's done ok in his few appearances. I'd prefer Hamer over Federici I think but again it's all ifs and buts as Hahnemann is still Reading's number 1 for the time being.

Never really rated Camp that hightly, but if it were a straight choice between him and Federici, and wages didn't come into it at all, then I'd go for Camp.

Apart from when we signed Stack, we've never really consistently had two decent keepers of the same ability/similar cost at the club and I can't see us from changing that policy anytime soon.

Hamer looks a very bright prospect, but, as and when Hahnemann is deemed past it, which can't be far off now (especially if Coppell leaves in the summer and a new manager starts to build his own side), I'd expect to see a more proven keeper come in and Hamer step up as number two.

Agree with everything you say apart from Stack.

Stack at the time of signing was a genuine rival to Hahnemann and the first time Coppell had done that.

I'd prefer Camp to a first signed Stack I think.

The bit where you say two decent keepers. I don't think Stack was anywhere near MH's quality.

I agree on that personally, but I think that was the thinking around signing him, to offer proper competition and depth. He'd had quite a successful time on loan in the Championship and would've been on higher wages than a lot of other keepers willing to sign as backup to Hahnemann.

That he wasn't quite up to it doesn't change the reasoning behind why I think they bought him in at the time.

Andersen has proven far more in Scandinavia than Hamer has in England.

He proved everything I needed to see at Torquay last season.

To be fair to him, I'm not sure that 3 games is enough to convince either way, especially for a young player, and even more so for a goalkeeper.

Lee Camp. Wasn't he the Derby keeper who dropped a last minute winner straight onto Cureton's foot at the Mad Stad about 7 years ago? Only time I've seen him play.

Still, he does have a very good reputation, is fairly young and has a lot of experience. Would be an excellent signing.

EDIT: My mistake, that was Lee Grant.

Who has been in stunning form for Wednesday over the last two seasons (he was their best player by a mile against us - despite his team conceding 6) - sorry not sure what that adds to the discussion!

Would SC take another gamble of getting a high profile GK in after what happened with Stack?
