As rumours go I rather like this one. Certainly the type of player that Coppell would approve of and within budget too.

Baines We were hardly like to try to get an untested and mercurial right winger on the cheap when we're in the Premiership. With Little's poor fitness record that would have been a recipe for disaster.

I presume there is a touch of sarcasm in there Baines?

I was there at Elm Park
Sun Tzu Coppell always waits to speak to every opposition player after every game, home and away. I've always thought it was a touch of class as he does it win, lose or draw.

True but I do think there was maybe more to that chat with Campbell-Ryce than his normal ones. Probably just said that he thought he played well and would be watching him in the future.

On what grounds?

Why don't you just admit what you said was rubbish and you didn't realise Coppell always puts himself out to acknowledge the other teams players

JC http://www.thestar.co.uk/reds/LATEST-Reds-consider-1m-winger.4885966.jp

Article in Sheffield Star says we are thought to have offered Barnsley £1 million.

I loved the look of this kid about 4 years ago but got slated. Quality winger, but there were questions about his attitude.

£1m might be a wee bit much though. He's good, but that good?

Actually when I saw it happen I turned straight to my Dad, pointed it out and said that I thought Coppell might have an interest him and was letting him know. Having said that I'm obviously going to think that I may have had a point.

So essentially, because you didn't know something you formed an instant (and understandable) assumption that it meant Coppell was interested in the player.

But now you do know there was nothing special about Coppell chatting to an opposition player, you are retaining that opinion which is now basically baseless.

Coppell is pretty honest and straight up when it comes to transfers and so is the club as a whole. I rather doubt he was sounding him out for joining us. It's not the sort of thing I think he'd do outside of the proper channels.

I'm basing that on his general character and the facthe was part of the original transfer bung think tank that was ignored. You don't get on that without having an interest in keeping things clean and playing by the rules IMO.

Give the guy a break !

We all jump to conclusions and make statements based on iffy half truths and mistaken impressions.

If we sign Campbell-Ryce then he made a good call about the interest and can dine out on it for a while. If everyone had to provide cast iron evidence to back up their statements on here we'd be in real trouble !!

Baines
IMAMATEOFJOVSKY The 25-year-old Jamaican international joined Barnsley from Southend in August 2007 for £175,000.

Shame our scouting network wasnt more on the ball in 2007 - would have got a price far more pallatible for Sir Mad!

Not if Convey and Hunt both leave. Besides Tabb can play anywhere in Midfield so not neccessarily signed as a winger.
