winchester_royal Beggars can't be choosers, and given that we have a squad that is performing below its true level ATM, Dowie could well prove to be the answer.

Anyway, regardless of who gets the job, we need to give the new manager all the support we can.

Is it? Really??? Is it 7 games out of 24 that we have conceded 3 or more? I am sick of this too good to go down shit. We are where we are because we are not good enough. 2009 has produced some of the worst football I have ever seen from Reading.

Exactly. We are where we are because we haven't performed at anywhere near our best, Dowie could be the man to get us near that 100%.

If this rumour is true then I really will despair. Apart from his one success with Palace - which was a bit of a fluke - Dowie has failed in every job since. It would make even less since since far better mangers like Irvine and Ferguson are available, so I assume this rumour is a wind up.

I would infinitely have preferred Rodgers to stay than for him to be replaced by Dowie. I would prefer David Bowie to Ian Dowie!

I dont think Dowie is that bad to be honest

I think he might over complicate things a litte bit but he does talk a good game and is tactically very good and I dont go along with the idea that his team play a lot of long ball, certainly not as much as Coppells teams did before Reading

To say he failed everywhere but at Palace is a bit harsh too. At Oldham he did a good job, and at QPR and Coventry his record isnt so bad. His time at Charlton was a bit of a car crash though, but taking over from Curbs was always going to be a bit of a hiding to nothing

What worries me is that he seems to have a habit of taking on jobs with a lot of baggage and if he is looking to come here it just shows how bad things are behind the scenes

But what WR if we are performing TO OUR BEST ABILITIES? That this is as good as it will get?

I think we've shown flashes of real quality this season. If Dowie can get us perfomring at a good level 80% of the time we'll be ok IMO.

Inconsistency is our biggest enemy, Dowie would be a good bet to rid us of that.

From what I have seen, consistency has been there. Consistently rubbish. Our inability to convert chances into shots on target let alone goals. Our defence looking like a car crash waiting to happen. Players constantly played out of position. Basic lack of quality and ability throughout. A goalkeeper who looks like he has been on the pop for far too long. What quality that has been shown has been too little to take as what we are capable of. Our basic inability to compete has us where we are for that very reason. We are not good enough.

Would Dowie make a difference? I doubt it. I have resigned myself to watching ever worsening performances which will result with relegation. I have seen NOTHING this season to suggest otherwise.

As mentioned elsewhere, SAF would struggle with this shower of shit. We have maybe 2 players at most who would attract interest from other CCC clubs. Do we have any who would walk into any other CCC team? I think not! Therein lies the problem.

Dowie's whole career runs off the back of half a season at Palace.

He has achieved absolutely nothing at any other club, and if he gets the job we will be the laughing stock of English football.

As mentioned, he dines out on one fantastic half season with Palace. Other than that it's 2 relegations (if you include charlton who he set on their way) and 2 utter disasters at Coventry and QPR.

The bloke is an utter moron, a toilet manager and would be the one person I absolutely would not want here.

Done nothing in management apart from a miracle 6 months at Palace which got them just about promoted. Would not be able to do the same at Reading which would mean a long term stint so, no thanks!

Please inform what he achieved at Oldham? (and don't play the 'made the play off's' card he spent a small fortune and went out.)

Being an "utter disaster" he would fit in perfectly with the egoman and his director of football, coz there arnt many bigger "utter disasters" in football than that pair of pricks !!!

Come on Sir John! You tarnished your reputation with your disgusting treatment of Brendan Rodgers; restore your reputation by appointing Ian Dowie.
