In my experience unless their team has a really top class keeper, which are few and far between, a lot of fans don't rate their team's goalkeeper. It is psychological but if a keeper makes nine great saves and one error that leads to a goal people, including me by the way, will remember the error much more clearly than the saves.

The two Palace games demonstrate this as when I look back at the end of the season I am sure I am going to remember his gaffes in the home match and won't remember the important saves he made in the away match particularly when the score was nil nil.

Of course the number of errors which lead to goals is the criteria by which keepers are ultimately judged but I suspect if a goalkeeping expert looked at all the goals scored in the Championship this season then the percentage where Adam was to blame would probably be no higher than the other goalkeepers despite his rather sticky patch earlier in the season.

In view of his still young age for a goalkeeper I can quite believe that a decent size Club might feel he was worth a punt in the summer especially as they now know we are a selling Club and that at this moment in time anyway we have three decent pretenders to the number one jersey.

Sorry Elmer park, you'll get blocked soon for talking too much sense and not slagging off our players.

Clangers never really did David James any harm.

Despite all the bad press he was never as bad as they made out

He has got a lot better as time goes by too, but we need a keeper for now, not 10 years time

I hope that we go for Speroni in the Summer; excellent keeper.

Feds now claiming in the Sun that he has been approached to play in Italy because he has Italian parents.....

His agent working overtime to get a better deal....

Would love to have him here but I don't think he will sign unless Palace are relegated. Hopefully I'm proven wrong. :D

This is pretty bonkers, if true. I just had a look at their last squad and the 3 keepers selected were:
Federico Marchetti (Cagliari) currently 12th in Serie A
Morgan De Sanctis (Napoli) currently 6th in Serie A
Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo) currently 4th in Serie A

This was the friendly against Cameroon. So why look at taking on a keeper that plays in the 2nd tier in England for a club that lies 12th??? Doesn't make sense to me.

& What the hells happened to Buffon?? According to wiki he's only 32.

I still struggle to care that Federici could go. If we seriously got a seven figure fee for him, I'd snap at it. He's ok, he isn't great, and he is replaceable. Just not fussed by this at all.

Any doofus could work out that you don't need Italian relatives to play for an Italian league team

I would hate him for all eternity.

Especially how the Azzurri scum cheated Australia out of the last world cup.

Fella hasn't established himself as a top keeper and he already wants to play in Italy.... Not saying he is not a good keeper but wasn't he really really poor in the first half of the season? Can't fault him for his aspirations though.

The guy is playing his first full season with us as no.1 and he has never played at this level before joining us. considering his career to date has been training for temp contracts, then signing for us and being loaned out to lower leagues, I think he's done bloody well. He's got better as the season has gone on and you can see he's been working on saving shots to his right side. Next season he will need to show his second half of the season form on a regular basis to make himself the best keeper outside the prem IMO.

Someone on here mentioned speroni....every game i've seen him play he's looked god awful. Didn't Palace fans used to call him Spilloni???

Still think he has a long way to go to be the best outside the Premier League.

He still makes a lot of mistakes and doesn't command his six yard area let alone the rest of his box at times. He should get better because a lot of it is down to making rash decisions, but I remain unconvinced.

Next season you'll probably have Myhil, De Vires, Weale (despite his hilarious gaff vs Derby), Davis, a Pompey Keeper maybe, perhaps Camp (not his biggest fan either) and Richard Wright, all as better than Federici.

I hope he proves me wrong as I can't see us selling or replacing him until at least the end of next season.

I know I know. :D But for him to play in one of the most prestigious leagues out there (Italy) is still a long shot for him IMO.

Actually, Neil Warnock called Speroni the 'best keeper' in the division by a mile. Would agree with him on that. Had rave reviews at Palace and Dundee.

A video on him, quite brilliantly actually : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndJFFiWCuqc

Nice clips. Certainly looked good but there was only about 6 different games there!! Yea I heard Neil Warnock say that too but he's also said that he's better than Mourinho so I don't know if i should take him too seriously.
