Wonder what Kes thinks of the chances of Bertrand playing for his favourite team.

Daily Mirror claims today that Bertrand will reject the offer of a new chelsea contract to sign for reading permanently.

Would be excellent if that happened and a real testament to BMc's management.

If we can sort out our loan defence and keep Siggy, I am convinced we will win automatic promotion next year, so getting Bertrand would be a fantastic first step.

Harpers So Solid Crew
Row Z Royal We've been known to spend £2m on defenders recently...

What?

Tbf, we spent £1.2m, and the rest is based on appearances and promotion.

Automatics!? We'll need a lot more for them.

Sig is good, but he'd need to play as well as this season again, with both Kebe and McAnuff performing consistently at their best and at least one of Church, Rasiak or Long making the striking position their own and getting 20 odd goals.

That's a big ask for a lot of quite inconsistent players.

How do you know the amount quoted for Bertrand doesn't include appearances and other caveats? Afterall the price for Mills was quoted in the media at £2m.

Just for the record, the Daily Mirror rumour has simply taken quotes from the Evening post article;
which basically says Bertrand would consider us if Chelsea cannot give him first team opportunities.
Were still far far far away from pulling of this one!

I think Chelsea will want about 1-1.5m for him. He hasn't played a first team game, rejects a contract, there isn't really much more Chelsea can do for Bertrand if that is the case

I think that it would be a great investment, as this lad will be worth a bucket load later down the road.

I know what I would be doing if I was the chairman.

You are forgetting even if he does reject a contract and sign for us, a tribunal will be setting a fee because of his age. Can't see madejski investing once again, so don't expect bertrand to be here next season. Cringe when he goes to forest instead because they have more ambition.

Greed. But hope that it doesn't happen. If Madejski allowed some money for Rogers to spend hopefully he will do the same for McDermott. 3 million should do it!

No it wont........he's only going to reject an improved contract. He's still got a couple of years left on his current (Chelsea) deal, so they will set the price we have to pay.

He's a good prospect, but he's way down the pecking order m8, so will probably sign for West Brom along with Kebe in the summer.

lol
to be fair tribunals are usually lower prices than a club asks for arent they, and i see no reason why JM wouldnt fork out 1.5 million for berti.
i see this as more of a come and get me plea , hes just being complimentary about reading, as he is currently playing here, but im sure if someone better came in hed go there

So why woudlnt we out bid them for Bertrand?

Reading pay decent wages.

You make out that we can't compete with Forest in the transfer market, but you admit that we out bid them last summer.

I think if he doesn't go to a Premiership side he will be a Reading player next season. I do however think there will be a number of PRem clubs looking very closely at him.
