Corky341 Aston Villa have moved a step closer to landing Reading striker Kevin Doyle in a £7.5m deal. (Daily Star)

I think I have spotted the flaw in this rumour.

Doyle will be heading up the M40 for the type of fee that will demonstrate two things- Firstly Martin O is not always such a keen judge of striking talent and secondly football and credit crunch are not yet closely related. I am sure that Mr Mad will put on his generosity wig and will let SC spend at least 1% of the outrageous fee received.

On last seasons form and that of this, he's welcome to Villa and for that money, a bargain for us, daylight robbery for them.

We will miss Doyle, sure, but just how much can you miss someone that has played poorly for 18 months?

Doyle only cost Reading around 1% of the outrageous fee being quoted. If this sale goes through, at this price, there will not be a better bit of business done, anywhere, this year

What's the betting Sunderland trump Villa's supposed bid and go to 8 million? We can hope

I can't see them wasting £7m on a third choice striker either.

Doyle's a Premiership quality centre forward.

The reason our strikers looked so shite last season, was down to the rest of the team being rubbish.

Torres would have struggled with Hunt and our non existent right winger supplying the crosses and all those through balls from Harper too, that sadly just went sideways. Not to mention Fae/Bryn/Cisse/Kebe/Oster. The list is just embarrassing.

He'll excel at Villa, with players of his quality around him.

If he has then fair play to him, get some good cash and happy days. Will there be another forward joining, or was Mooney the insurance policy all along?

It's on RTE in Ireland and on the National Radio in Ireland.

Nothing on the Cork City forum and they would be celebrating in the streets if he has.

Why? I don't think there's any sell-on clause?
