Winston Smith Robert Beric

Shame we didn't get him in the summer.

Currently out with a long term injury after starting to score for St Etienne, so no good for us

Maybe he is on the beach??

Seriosuly, Pearce partnering McShane might be pretty decent actually. Pearce always played better alongside a more experienced centre back rather than as the experienced centre back

I would literally cut up my season ticket in disgust if we ever resigned Pearce.

Sidwell an interesting suggestion. Bring in as Captain on an interim basis. As that's what's desparately required. A leader on the pitch.

Sidwell wants to come back apparently. Not sure where he fits in unless Williams and Tish aren't in Brian's preferred midfield

That's really going to improve team spirit, bring someone in for the rest of the season and make him captain, putting current captain and best CB, McShane's nose out of joint. Basically saying he's not good enough to captain the team out of a dodgy run of form. :|

Has to be said he hasn't shown too much to suggest he is. We lack clear unity and leadership on the pitch.

I'm not saying I'd switch it up, I wouldn't, but McShane hasn't so far done or be seen to be doing enough.

Has Sidwell seen the vacant PA announcers job advertised ? That's the only way he's coming back ...

I don't think there's anything clear about it. It's incredibly hard for fans to judge the captain and who would make a good one. But McShane seems to fit the bill. I really don't see what bringing in a new player and making them captain achieves. When it comes to captaincy, except for fairly rare circumstances when the player's entire character doesn't seem right for the role, you just have to trust the manager's judgement.

It's certainly a slap in the face for McShane. The captain is the players' link to management, so foisting someone new they don't know onto them mid-way through the season seems an incredibly risky idea. Add to that, we hardly need more midfielders given we have Norwood, Quinn, Williams, Tshibola and Fernandez, as well as Kuhl.

I'd far rather we focused our efforts on competition for Sa and Gunter, plus a more reliable keeper. We really don't want to start bloating our squad again. I don't really see what Sidwell will add that we don't have, he wasn't a regular last season and is in the twilight of his career. Quinn played more than him in the PL last season and is younger. It seems to me the only reason to go back is nostalgia. It didn't really work with Shorey when we actually needed a left back, so I don't see why it would be better when we don't really need a midfielder.

It'll be conjecture and rumour all month followed by the last day panic when nothing happens and we'll then get a 19 year old left back from Hanwell Town in February.

It's good to have Brian back

Do you see?

It's already a big squad with plenty of capable championship standard players with a good few more contenders on loan. I don't think signings are necessary, just got to sort out the way they play.

Dave-Royal Brian McDermott has said Reading have exhausted the loan system and would need to recruit permanent players if they are to add to their squad during the transfer window.

The Royals already have six players on loan from other other clubs and speaking after his side's 1-0 victory over Bristol, McDermott said he was open to adding to his squad.

"If we’re going to strengthen, in my opinion it needs to be players who will come in and be Reading players. That’s important,” he said.

Coherent, well punctuated and correctly capitalized. Dave, have you had a head trauma or discovered cut-and-paste?
