Royalwaster I'm really disappointed that we did not spend tons of money on huge contracts and signings as it might mean missing out on another points deduction later down the line! Very disappointing transfer window. Why get new owners if they're going to behave sensibly?

There is also a middle ground that can be considered.

Meh, I’m satisfied, don’t need the dopamine hit on deadline day and am happy we don’t appear to be losing anyone.

We’ll be fine with this squad and will be ready to make a real go of it next year.

Orion1871 The usual thrilling RFC transfer deadline day then.

If only we'd not gone into the window with a plan, failed to sign people until the last minute and then splurged on four overly expensive mercenaries on transfer deadline day, just so people could get the dopamine hit SKY has brainwashed them into wanting.

Talk about an overreaction. It was more of a statement than a criticism. Still gave you the chance to be a self righteous know it all, Ian.

Plus, even if it was a criticism, Jacobson and Noel said on their YouTube interview that they had targets that went elsewhere, so that would suggest there are some gaps in the squad that haven't quite been filled.

Clyde1998
morganb The transfer window slams shut tomorrow (Monday 1st September) at 19:00 BST

What business do you think we'll do before this time?

Ferguson and McCleary( ) are free agents so can wait

Do we have a hulking great lump of a target man lined up? Any names?

Who can we bring in - what spaces do we have left in our 22-man-aged-over-21 squad and have we an "international wildcard slot" available still?

How about loans - who will become available and will we keep the one remaining slot (of the maximum of 5 loans on a match day) for January?

So many questions...

I think someone at the club said in a Q&A we have two wild card slots and they've both been used (Fraser and Kyerewaa).

Reading FC name 19 senior players in 22-man EFL squad (so 3 spare slots remain)

I’m referring to the international wild cards.

Brian Carey just confirmed at the Fans’ Forum we have two slots and they’re taken by Fraser and Kyerewaa.

We couldn’t sign any additional non-UK/Irish players.

And? There’s plenty of UK/Irish talent around or is our scouting team only interested in non-UK/Irish players?

I was responding to a direct question:
morganb Who can we bring in - what spaces do we have left in our 22-man-aged-over-21 squad and have we an "international wildcard slot" available still?

Morgan misinterpreted which of the two points I was responding to (seemingly believing I was talking about the spaces left in our overall squad). I was clarifying I was talking about the international wildcards and what the situation was regarding that.

Sorry for the confusion and perhaps I should have just quoted my original post rather than including your reply but I understood that your post was to do with the wildcards whereas my reply yesterday was to do with my other question regarding the 22 man squad. I just thought quoting you would keep all the info together (and you had bolded the part you were replying to so in hindsight perhaps I should have done the same?)

This is silly. What exactly are the FL trying to achieve here, is it a meaningful exercise, with ramifications, or just some random bollox they’ve dreamed up to create a job for someone?

Clubs are asked to name squads of 25 players but should not include goalkeepers, neither should any player under 21 at the start of the year be included!? Reading therefore only have 19 players, yet quite obviously with the keepers, youngsters and omitted loans included (all of whom are regularly in Reading’s matchday squads) they have a squad greater than 25.

I would say it's an attempt to stop clubs hoarding too many senior players, so there is always a progression path for youth, it limits the number of senior players sat around never playing.

Helps prevent scenarios where one club just buys up all the talent in the division to keep it from anyone else.
