Terminal Boardom
Ian Royal It's quite simple. I don't think the players he signed were that bad. But he didn't really get great value for money out of them.

Bertrand has been good, but far from excellent.
McAnuff took a while to get fit and has been mostly excellent
Rasiak is doing his job fairly well.
Howard started to come good once he stopped being used as the attacking midfielder but got injured. Early on he was keeping Sig out the side which was not clever.
Cummings showed small flashes of quality whilst being not really good enough. This has left us desperate at right back. Would have been better in a more confident team with a better centreback combination next to him.
Mills has been a flop for the amount paid, mainly because Rodgers hasn't played him IMO
O'Dea was a bit of a waste of time given the amount he played.

So he spent pots of money and only one of the signings has really come off. Glad that's cleared up.

But then again he promoted Siggy to the first team which he is our best player at the moment. So kudos to Rogers

Ideal I'm sorry Dan, but it is like keeping the pretty but stupid girlfriend who cheats on you, only because she is good in bed.

Yeah, that's why I'd keep him too.

Pretty and good in bed ain't bad - I'd stick with that. At least for a while. There are loads of clever but ugly girls around to have deep conversation with.

Ideal's girl is bad when a stable relationship is top priority.

Will be surprised if Marek is still here by 1st Feb.

For months I have been saying we would be better with the likes of Cisse and Karacan playing together and that point was proved against Liverpool. Marek is too lightweight defensively to play in a poor Championship side and would ironically be of more use to a better quality team as he is what I would call a luxury player.

The role he should be good at is behind the striker in a 4-5-1 but he failed every time in that position and Sig does it much better when put in that role.

A specific stifle job on Liverpool doesn't make Karacan and Cisse a good championship pairing.

I really believe that if we are to survive there is no place for Marek in this team.

The arguement that he is too good is total bollox as well, for which you'd get laughed out of any managers office for making. The best players play with those around him.

But they do sound better than Howard/Marek, if your goal is avoiding relegation.
A combative midfield would help a lot in the goals against column.

Agree with Ian. Those 2 did a job and Cisse faded in the second half. Karacan seemed to step up another gear when cisse came off too, not that he was playing badly anyway.

If, and I think it's a fairly big if, Marek goes, what about replacing him with Peter Halmosi? I know he hasn't set the world alight at Hull, but is still regarded as a very good Championship player.

Would much sooner have Koumas or Ben Watson from Wigan if we are talking of replacing a midfielder with a midfielder.

I'd sooner have Torres up front too, but its not going to happen. Both of those players are on wages that we wouldn't pay, and they are likely to want premiership football.

I doubt that Wigan pay massive wages and whereas they both might WANT to play Premiership football I'm not sure that Premiership clubs would want them.

Might be true - but not sure they'd want 'cutting the cloth' wages either! :D

They'll be massive wages compared to Championship clubs. No way in our budget.

Personally, if we sell Marek we should be using the money for a striker or rightback, we're fine in midfield, in fact we still have too many bodies IMO.

Neither Watson or Koumas would be short of offers at this level, and therefore wouldn't even consider a move to lowly Reading.

Good, we don't need to piss our resources away on more bloody midfielders.

Don't disagree-that's why I made the point that IF we were looking at a midfielder replacement then Koumas or Watson might fit the bill.
BTW there are plenty of myths about Premiership wages but I see in today's paper that the top wages at Burnley are £15k per week.

because the sensibly put a wage cap in place to stop them leaking money
that doesnt make the rest of the prems wages a myth

Thats on their basic though isnt it

I wonder if they have better bonuses etc than a lot of the other teams to keep them up. If they do its a much more sensible way of doing things, and not far off what we did (I seem to remember 15k or 18k being the kind of money Sidwell originally wanted when we went up). Obviously wages have risen since then as well though
