We realised long ago that we'll never win in a bidding war.

That's why there's a clear policy to look after the players and their families, treat them decently and make sure they enjoy being here - a happy, settled footballer with a good quality of life is likely to stay longer than one who is only interested in the size of their wage packet.

Promotion to the Premiership fcuked that tho. Most developed an ego and wanted that higher standard of life/spot light.. Sure we might create a nice club to play for at this level, but ultimately greed takes over.

I don't think you can say that's true when the likes of Harper, Hahnemann, Doyle & Ingimarsson all stayed with us after relegation quite happily and made no efforts to get themselves a move.

Only for some - certainly not for others.

Mr Optimist I reckon either of the promoted clubs, West Brom or Newcastle would be interested at that sort of price. Poss West Brom more likely as Di Matteo probably still got useful Chelsea contacts.

Would be a good move for Bertrand and a step up from us and the chance of regular first team Prem football for him.

That would be the West Brom who have two left backs who are as good as or better than Bertrand?

If it goes to tribunal (I doubt it will, because if Chelsea want Bertrand enough to offer a deal equal to or better than his current one, he'll accept it) then it would cost a lot less than if we had to bid for him.

I can't see Bertrand get near the Chelsea first team at the start of next season. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up back here on loan until Christmas.

Wycombe Royal Forest need a left back and although their first choice would be Shorey, I can see them being interested in Betrand.

Despite him playing for Fulham? Or that their first choice singing would be Shorey? Bertrand>Shorey imo simply because Shorey is yet to reach that form he enjoyed when playing for us, and because Bertrand will become a better player. For sure!

If Bertrand gets an offer from a Premiership club that gives him 1st team football he'll leave Chelsea

If there is no such interest then Reading will have a chance if they can agree terms with Chelsea.

WBA are inviting offers for Mattock as well, which is worrying in regard to Bertrand. Mattock could do us a job.

There is no way he's coming back. Unfortunately he's had a bloody good season and I imagine after playing 2 years in the championship already, he'll fancy his chances in the prem. He'll either stay at Chelsea and get loaned out to a prem team or join a prem team permanently. Best of luck to him.
