So he goes to Pompey, we can then spend the rest of the season trying to get Nugent to agree to play for us....

No-one in their right mind would go to Pompey ATM.

Plus it's quite a distance from London.

So at this moment in time - what makes Reading a better option for Smith than Pompey???

and if Pompey decide to offer £2m what then??

Or maybe Nicky Hammond has asked if he can make a final final final offer

Still no keep up to date with transfers advert on the official site so I suspect that the club aren't having talks atm

Royal Rother If it hadn't become so obvious that we needed him we may well have got our man for less, but neither Rodgers nor Madejski could afford NOT to get him in the end and Watford knew that so played harder ball than they might otherwise have done.

Fair play to them.

We win, we get our man. (Presumably.)

They win, they get the big fee.

Everyone's happy.

Except Reading FC supporters of course who will look for the big negative.

And if he goes somewhere else?

We should paid the price earlier and we would not be in this position.

In some ways I do hope we lose this deal , because then all the RTGs will realise that we are a tight fisted, no ambition club, heading south!

.....or maybe not - even in Div 2, theyll still be licking Egomans arse saying " oh yes but he saved the club"..did he Fook!

Hang on, you want us not to spend money because then you can have a go at us for not spending money?

How do you work that out??????

We've already paid 2 million for one player, and have now matched the 1.8 million asking price for Smith.

That aint tight fisted you bloomin muppet.

So what??? I don't know if you've heard of a concept called negotiation, but 1.8 million is a lot of money, and Hammond was right to try and make sure we paid as little as possible, obviously that hasn't worked out, but it was still worth the effort.

We also probably needed to wait until Hunt and BK had left in order to fund the move.

No no, can't buy that. Not with the sale of Doyle already. They knew early one we would lose the other two.
