In some ways it feels like we have more to offer these youngsters in League One than if we were still in the Championship. I guess they know that they’ll get more game time, which really helps with their development.

I am impressed with how Bowen and Carey are going about their business and in some ways it’s nice to get off the merry go round of signing big name players in an attempt to get out of the Championship.

I am really hoping that we can eventually return to the Championship and be the next Coventry/Sunderland playing an exciting attacking brand of football.

Pepe the Horseman Charlie Savage is expected to join Reading in a permanent deal.

It includes a sell-on fee with an agreement that United can match any bid should they want to re-sign him.

That first option clause must mean they rate him highly - they think they may want to sign him back one day.

Will Robbie be coming to watch Reading games regularly now?

If he does, I hope he's wearing more clothes than his last appearance

Lewis Wing the latest to be linked, via the reliable Pete O'Rourke.

Was nailed on for the Super Hoops, but we're gonna offer him a longer contract by the sounds of it. He played under Ainsworth at Wycombe, so expect he'll still end up at QPR, but nice to actually be competing with a Championship club.

Yep be surprised if he came to us but I was surprised Savage seems to have chosen us

He looks pretty decent from the stats. CEntral Mid. Had a very good season last year from the look of it. 28

Edit - scouting round a bit more he’d be an exceptional signing. Which prob makes it more unlikely

Wiki somehow has Lewis Wing down as playing for Grimsby (he's not he's currently training at former club Middlesbrough)

He is related to Jason Steele (Brighton keeper).

28 year old AM, most successful period was the 92 apps and 14 goals he managed at Middlesbrough over 5 seasons having spent his earlier career with various non league clubs in the Northern League. Joined Wycombe for 18 months in January 2022 and was their joint top scorer last season before rejecting a new deal this summer.

Nice to see us being linked with players and acquiring them too, fwiw thoughts on the recent links -

Dean - solid, tough championship defender in similar vein to Morrison, needed to beef up the defence and certainly be a L1 asset. Hope we get him

Wing - would be a good signing, exciting player to watch

Savage - not as excited as the kids on Twitter about this one, very lightweight for L1. Similar to characteristics to Karacan, more excited by the fact we might be signing someone for a fee

Martin - really don’t want this one, must be one of the worst players I’ve ever seen wear our shirt, very lazy and his attitude stank. Also don’t get why we need another big forward with AC

Fornah - would have him back in a heartbeat, if played in right position he’s very technically gifted and has already excelled in L1 before

Walcott - would be an unbelievable acquisition for L1 given amount of games he played in Prem last season and his experience amongst young lads would be class

Lumley - would 100% take him, you don’t win Players Player of the season for no reason and I actually think that means more than the fans vote, his style last season was down to Ince, in L1 great signing

under the tin
blythspartan Was it Robbie Savage that we gave a standing ovation to years back as it was his last professional game? That could tip the scales in our favour, lol.

Far superior info about him from Sutekh.

Oh yeah. Memorable match. I was there. He walked off the pitch at the end wearing just his pants and vest. He threw everything else into the away end.
I have to say he won me over that day. We in the (then) north stand were giving him pelters when he went in goal, and he took it all good naturedly, and made a couple of decent saves, which were applauded by many, including myself.

Robbie always spoke highly of us in his media stuff afterwards so we made a decent impression on him. Was a great game tbf

There has been rightly a lot of doom and gloom recently but I reckon next season will be quite exciting, certainly enjoying the signings so far.

Agreed. Right profile of signing. They won’t all come off but like they seem to be at good stages of their career

Couple more like this and we should be good

So to summarise, we've signed Knibbs, Smith and Wing, Mbengue has resigned and Savage is due to be announced tomorrow.

We also apparently have Amos lined up and Dean on trial. Also linked to Wilson and Button with Walcott still a maybe if he doesn't get a better offer.

Have I missed anyone?

After all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, that's a pretty decent week's business targetting areas of need with the promise of more to come. I also quite like the fact that we're signing players (Wing, Savage) who've been linked to Championship teams. Suggests the facilities (and staff/vision being sold) are a big draw.
