Speculation:Matty Fryatt?

by Royal_Delight » 18 Nov 2010 06:46

On Fordham's twitter:

If Ishmael Miller or Roman Bednar goes to #hcfc or #leicestercity from #wba then that could pave the way for #readingfc to land Fryatt.

Good player but shouldn't we get a player like Bednar? Big sized, able to hold up balls bla bla bla....

Personally I'd rather have Miller or Bednar over Fryatt.

Fryatt to Hull would make sense as his former Manager is there but but I would be happy to see him join us.

I imagine that Fryatt fits our so called player DNA better than Bednar and there were rumours in August that he was a target. There is also the issue of McDermott wanting any loanee to be available permanently. I think Fryatt is a good player but I do think he is a very similar one to the strikers we have already. If the previous rumours about Mackail-Smith were true then it seems that is the sort of player the Manager wants. Neither Fryatt or Mackail-Smith have a great physical presence but run and run all day although Fryatt in particular is a better finisher than either Long or Church at the moment and is a decent player at this level.

Anyway the thread will probably be dead in the water in a few days.

fryatts exactly the sort of player I'd want us to bring in. If he's available and we let Hull get him we'll regret it. Too many paralels with Billy Sharp last year!

Fryatt no better than we have already - cannot see that happening.

Really? One of the only strikers last season who looked capable of scoring 20 goals a season in this division (the others being Maynard and Hooper) but got injured halfway through.

People always go on about getting a 20 goal a season striker when in reality there are very few that'd come to us in this division without costing huge amounts, probably Hooper, Sharp and Fryatt are the only ones in the last year in my opinion.

If he was that good he would be playing regularly for Leicester.

As ever the, 'he's not playing at X' or 'doesn't score for Y' argument doesn't hold a lot of water for me.

Players go stale, players fall out with each other, the manager or the club. Sometimes they just need a change or a new challenge.

I think Fryatt is a pretty good player and is a bit different to what we already have. Having watched him a bit over the last few seasons I certainly think he'd be a more consistent goalscoring than any of our forwards and would probably be a good foil for Long too.

Agreed - a big target man is what we need - not another relatively small striker.

The only way I can see this being true is if we have a buyer lined up for Shane Long and Fryatt is his replacement.

I can certainly understand why people think we should get a big target man. My only problem with this is that we play shit hoofball enough as it is. Lets not encourage Mills to keep pumping aimless balls forward and instead play more on the deck.

We saw that happen to England on Wednesday. Stick the big man in up front and the long hoofball to him is always the easy option.

Agreed to a point but the truth is a player like Rasiak last season is an option if you are chasing a game. I think if we had had Rasiak on the bench for the last 20 minutes on Saturday for example - that there is a good chance we would have had a winner. There have been several other games this year where Rasiak would have made a difference and Bednar is a much better player than Rasiak IMO.

Truth is Long has become quite good at holding up the ball - what we need is somehow who can turn chances into goals. That's why I can see MF as a possible option, as he's proved that he can find the back of the net unlike anyone at the club at the moment.

Bednar was due to come here in new year last year in a swap deal for Kebe until the rest of the season. WBA had an injury crisis, so Bednar had to start and he scored. I think we got the better deal judging by Kebe's end to last season

So there is a history in our interest
