Rumour - James Vaughan

by LoyalRoyalFan » 18 Nov 2010 15:15

Everton striker James Vaughan has emerged as a surprise target for Championship side Reading.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, where he has scored a hat-trick and been sent off since his arrival at the start of September, but Reading will make a move to sign the forward in January when the transfer window re-opens.
Reading received around £6.5m from German side Hoffenheim for striker Gylfi Sigurdsson at the end of August and the Berkshire club are now set to spend £500,000 to replace him with Vaughan at the Madejski Stadium.

Toilet paper. We haven't go nearly enough money to bring him here, let alone the wages.

although i too dont believe he will be here in Jan i dont think it will be down to money cant imagine he is on a great deal at everton and 500k seems to be a figure which we might spend on a forward - the reason he wont be here is due to him being to similar to what we have and he looked utter gash against us

Agreed - he is too similar to what we have - we need an experienced big CF type player like Bednar.

Similar to what we have? I wish our strikers were as good as Vaughan.

On his day he can be good but he hasn't really torn up any trees for Crystal Palace although they apparently want to buy him in January. Saw somewhere that they may be put off because they have been quoted a seven figure fee though.

On what do you base that comment.

He is 22 - just a year younger than Long and in the last 7 seasons he has played 25+53 games and scored 14. He has never established himself anywhere yet. He scored a hat trick at Palace first game or so - but has only had 1 since.

Frankly the CV's of all 3 of our strikers are much better.

The jury is out and he would be a high risk signing IMO.

Actually about the same record as Long's between the second season in the prem and McD taking over. Obviously a different time span, but has he started out at Everton? That's likely to have limited his chances more than Long.
I think Long's was 21 (55) 12

Long hasn't really stepped up since then, in fact his records since becoming a regular starter seems to have gone backward (35 (2) 10), maybe Vaughan will manage it. And Palace have been pretty toss this season, which might be holding him back a little.

£500k seems a figure within our range depending on his wages. But I do agree that we could do with a player with a lot of experience and a good goalscoring record if we're going to sign another striker. Of course, they cost.

Yeah I know, 3 goals in his last 5 games, how gash is that? 5 goals in his last 10, even gasher!
