RUMOUR - Long to Coventry

by Wizard » 03 Jul 2009 10:51

wikipedia Recent speculation surrounds Shane Long with a move away from Reading FC. Coventry City are said to be monitoring the situation and a rumoured £2 million bid is set to be offered to the Royals.

First I've heard, and I know that Wikipedia has a reputation for being inaccurate, but I don't see why anyone would make that up, it just seems slightly odd. Anyone heard any more?

Apologies if it has already been posted anywhere, can't see it though

Cheers

Total rubbish. Long isn't going anywhere.

There that should see him signing the paperwork at the Ricoh in the next week or so.

Rodgers seems to fancy himself as a coach and if this turns out to be the case he could make a very decent player out of Long. I don`t think Long`s first touch will ever be up to much but if he can be taught to drop off, take the ball on the half turn and run at defenders he could be as effective for us as Nicky Forster. Now, if he could do that and look up as well............

Most of it will already have been spunked on players' wages.

player with a lot of potential. £2m would be incredible IMO and it would leave us very light upfront. But it would be hard to turn that sort of money down for Long.

Agree that it wouldn't be turned down for Long - probably about 1 nanosecond.

I'm certain Long won't be going as he has recently moved in to a house down my road and is living with his girlfriend.

And a nice, and quite modest house, at that.

Shane Long is going nowhere right now. And for what it's worth, I believe he a far better player than Simon Cox will ever be. No doubt I'm in the minority with that view.

I agree, he's a better player than people give him credit for.

I think Shane Long will have a good season next year and it won't surprise me if he gets 15 goals - I hope so because some on here are extremely negative about him. His scoring rate last year was actually quite good and he is only 22!!

If we sold him for £2M and he scores 15 for Coventry that would really rub it in. If we were buying a player who was 22 and had scored 9 Championship goals lat year in 13 starts plus sub appearances - people would be raving about what a good signing we were making. It is just that the lad has been here for 4 years already and has not yet become a first choice striker but he was only 17or just 18 when he came.
