Turkish giants Besiktas are poised to land Reading midfielder Jem Karacan in a surprise £1million swoop.

The Istanbul club, already qualified for the Champions League group stages, have been monitoring the Catford-born midfielder, who has a Turkish father and represented the country at youth and under-21 level, for the past year.

Now Besiktas want the 20-year-old, who made 17 appearances for the Royals last term and started in Saturday’s goalless draw with Nottingham Forest, to leave English football and come to his father’s homeland after Reading accepted the bid.

This morning Royals director of football Nick Hammond rejected claims that Reading had accepted a £1million bid from Turkish giants Besiktas for Jem Karacan.

The Turkey U21 midfielder is highly rated at Madejski Stadium and Hammond told the Post there had been no contact whatsoever from Besiktas.

He actually did go an play for Galatasary's under 16s or something, and hated the culture, the food, etc. He described it as the worst months of his life or something.

We didn't "produce" KD. He joined us from Dunstable for £35,000 having previously been on Tottenham's books.

and if his dad is a galatasaray fan i guess that would seriously rule out the besiktas move
