SPECULATION - Adriano Basso

by YateleyRoyal » 20 Aug 2009 11:09

Been made available for loan, has been very consistent for Bristol City over the last few years, surely would be worth a punt to replace/backup Fed?

We do have Hamer, but surely it would be better to have a keeper proven at this level?

I doubt Bristol City will be willing to let him go out on loan just to be backup at another club.

Theyve made him available for loan today, the guys already on the transfer list by request and has turned down all contract offers. I think they want shot of him

He was getting rave reviews last season. Have they since bought a new better keeper? Seems a strange turn around to now let him go out on loan.

As I said above, he's rejected a contract and demanded a transfer. The club wanted him to go permanently but are now willing to accept a loan deal

Just wondering why they'd allow him to go out on loan?

FGS I've said twice now why they'd send him out...he's rejected a contract and handed in a transfer request, his deal ends at the end of the season and they want shot of him!

Probably to get him off the wage bill if he's not gonna play.

Why would we need another keeper when he have federici, Hamer (played 65 LEAGUE games), McCarthy (doing well at yeovil) and anderson?

Because Hamer has played consistently at a lower level, McCarthy and Andersen are unproven, and I think Fed needs some genuine competition

Then if these keepers weren't genuine competition then why did hamer sign a new deal with club and same for anderson, but last season. To suggest we sign another keeper when Hamer has been given a new contract and been told he will be challenging for number 1, is quite daft. Plus, McCarthy signed a new deal on the 16th so the club clearly rate this kid. Suggesting a keeper when we're well covered for the present and future is a waste IMO.
But, Basso is a good keeper and would do well in this league.

By would do well, do you mean has done well?

Also, by that logic, would you turn down signing Steven Taylor from Newcastle if he was available just because Pearce and Ingi are captains and we just signed Mills? Even though we have good players, surely bringing in better, proven players can only help

So, in a position where injuries are rare and performances are usually more consistent than other positions on the pitch. You would be happy managing 3 very good keepers and 2 potentially great ones in their 20s. Maybe at a top four team but not Reading. We had that issue with stack when he was here competing with fed and hahnemann. Plus, Look what happened to ashdown. He came into the team towards the end of one season and left because coppell couldn't guarantee he would be at least starting (although it is funny hes gone to another bench!). I dont question the logic on signing a better player in a position but Hamer is a very good keeper, and wouldnt be rewarded by the club if they didn't think he could be challenging for the number 1 spot.
