In-form Northampton Town striker Courtney Herbert is a transfer target for Championship sides Watford and Reading.
Herbert, 20, joined the Cobblers from non-league side Long Buckby in September and already has two goals to his name in four appearances.
The rumour of a six-figure bid made by Reading has been going around Sixfields, who are looking for a striker to replace Kevin Doyle who left for Wolves in the summer.
Watford sent scouts to watch Herbert during Northampton 1-0 win over Lincoln, but will have come away disappointed when the striker pulled out with a back injury hours before the game.
The Northampton-born forward has shown exceptional ability in recent games, and caught he national limelight with his brilliant solo goal against Bury to get Northampton back into the game, using his raw pace to sprint in between two defenders and sending a deft flick over the advancing 'keeper.
If both Watford and Reading continue to pursue Herbert, the Cobblers may be in for a serious cash windfall as the striker signed from Long Buckby on a free transfer.
