from The Sun "QPR will sign reading defender Matt Mills next month - Whether Jim Magilton is boss or not. Rangers sporting director Gianni Paladini negotiated the £1 million deal before Magilton was suspended."

New depths plumbed in RFC transfer policy if true.

And as usual people come out with the 'It's only The Sun'

They don't just make it up. THe story has come from somewhere, most likely Mills agent.

The Sun is no less reliable than any broadsheet. It's just snobbery to say otherwise.

Still sounds an odd one. Like I say, Mills' agent.

Or, more likely, to fill column inches, they cast around to see what they can speculate on. "Oh, look, Reading have spent a lot of money on Mills and they haven't played him. Let's make some mischief there."

a) I can't see us selling him for less that we paid for him
b) With Ingi getting slower by the day and refusing to sign a new contract, Pearce looking like theinexperienced defender he is and O'Dea more than likely returning to Celtic that would mean as well as strikers, an attacking midfielder & a right back we would also be in the market for at least 2 more centre backs......

With all the clauses often involved in transfer fees it may well be that if we sold Mills for a million that might recoup what we have paid out. I don't think selling him is completely out of the question although it would probably be dependent on either extending O'Dea's loan or getting another centre back in on loan for the rest of the season.

The reasons I think it could happen is firstly that the player himself cannot be very happy with not being able to get into a poor side like ours and could well be keen to get away already. Secondly as has been pointed out many times there are probably other areas of the team which that sort of money would be better spent on.

I am hoping we will keep him because I think he has the potential to be the dominant centre back we are crying out for and a possible Captain and leader on the field but, with the Clubs finances being what they are now, I have a feeling the Manager will have to do a bit of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market in January if he wants to bring players in.

As some have already said, selling for a straight up million would recoup what we paid for him.

If we spent the money on Stock I wouldn't be upset at losing him.

1. He could be another Halford and just doen't fit in so we want rid.
2. It could be a page from Cisse's book ie. threaten to leave and he'll get back in.
3. It's made up crap.

As has been said, with O'dea likely to go and the currrent duo looking like a scene from Chariots of Fire when running, I can't see this happening unless there's already someone else lined up.

So to summarise. Happy to sell a centre half of which we have 3 of, the quality of which is debateable, and replace with a centre midfield of which we have 8 of already, is a good move?

The fact that Mills can't get in the team in front of Ingi and Pearce tells me that he's not the player we thought/hoped.

Matejovsky will probably go in January, as well as Gunnar apparently, and we do need to improve in quality in that area, so yes, IMO it would be a good move.

If this is true then its just goes to show what a total bunch of pillbrains we have at the club from chairman down to manager and just adds more fuel to the total idiots they made of themselves in screwing up the Tommy Smith transfer.

Why? We paid £1.1m for him. Almost our money back. ___ QPR did register interest, but in the form of a loan, and it was rebuffed. This is the first I've heard about a full blown transfer. Nottingham Forest were also said to be interested.

surely it would release 31m for BR to spend on players he thinks would help the cause, we already know there is no money for new players unless others leave.

The fact he can't get in ahead of the shambolic Ingimarsson suggests to me we need a new centreback pronto if he's off.

I could only believe this on the grounds that he was bought as a cultured ball playing centreback and has looked nothing like that when I've seen him play. Much more like a big hoofing bruiser. We need a more cultured pacier centreback.

I still think teaching Cisse to head could be the answer to our defensive problems.
