I can't be bothered to check if we could get some money for him, but I can't see this as a bad move for either parties if he does go.

Not a surprise considering his age and the remaining time left on his contract. I thought we kept him on over the summer in order to provide experience to the youngsters.

Not a massive loss.
Versatile, sure.
But beyond it and contract's up in the summer.
A little cash to spend (we hope)

top man
only recently has he put in anything other than steady, decent performances
with occasional flashes of brilliance

right time for him and the club IMO

Very reliable performer over the years but should have gone in the summer.

6 months wasted wages and less than brilliant performances IMO.

EDIT: When has he EVER been a regular starter for us?

He's been a good servant but is past it at this level now.

Top bloke and good luck to him whereever he ends up.

I like Boris, can be a good player on his day but is very old/slow now.

Always be remembered for the sheffield utd home game, the year we went up.

And a cracking goal at Blackburn on the last day of the season

can count his poor games on 4 fingers
two were his last two
and he still had a hand in a goal

the decision was clearly to secure his experience ina very young squad while we bedded in the othr kids

funnily enough- squads arent just built on the regular starters

I didn't say poor. You said poor. I said less than brilliant. The last time he had a brilliant (or good)performance is a long time ago.

We have three other defensive midfielders who can all last 90 minutes and play two games in a week. He is a waste of money this season.

He was piss poor against QPR and Peterborough by the way...

The story is of no surprise to me. Good work by his agent to get his name bandied about. Boris has done a good job or us and has always given his best. If he goes then I wish him all the best for the future. Will we get a fee? Nominal if anything I would guess.

I love Bryn. Always surprised me with his intelligence and touch. Sadly I have to agree he doesn't look like he's got much to offer the squad these days. Still, a fantastic professional who has given us brilliant service over the years, despite never really making himself first choice.

Would be a useful acquisition to the coaching and backroom staff what with his experience and calm nature of the man. The youngsters could have a worse mentor... Looks like another opportunity slips through our fingers.

What's Murts doing these days? Has he been forced to retire through injury now? If so, a combination of Murts and Gunnarsson as part of the back room staff wouldn't be a bad thing imo.

Still playing for Southampton! He recently played in their game against Walsall - that was on the 5th December.

Sometimes, as a club, we are too quick to cast out our older players. It was before I started watching Reading but I recall reading about Jimmy Wheeler leading our reserves to the league title in the late 1960s. JW was approaching the end of his career and it was a conscious decision to have an older head involved helping bring through the youngsters. Why don't we do more of this? This sort of approach would help build a legacy at this club where suitable ex-pros are able to prolong their career, gain valuable backroom experience and create something special.

We do, it's what Ingimarsson is doing in the first team at the moment isn't it?

We kept Gunnarsson on this year, presumably for something similar.

We usually have senior pro's playing for the ressies and we now have a lot more coaches involved in the junior teams than we ever did in those days. Those coaches are doing the same kind of job, albeit only from the sideline and on the training ground.
