New striker on the way?

by Royal_Delight » 27 Jan 2010 10:50

BM says he may want another striker after last night's embarrassing defeat. No idea who but I hope this fella can score.

"McDermott, though, maintains his belief that there was enough in the performance to suggest they can avoid the drop.

And the caretaker boss hinted he may still bring in another striker to cure his side's problems up front."

Love it! But him coming to a club fighting relegation? Don't think so.

Name me a single proven goalscorer at either this level or above who would want to come to us on loan? REALISTICALLY. Today is the 27th January. The window closes on Sunday. Dream on! If we were going to get someone in don't you think it would have been by now? But as SJM says, we have a great squad.

The loan window does not close on Sunday. It closes towards the end of March.

With Pompey's financial troubles I'm surprised we're not making a move for Tommy Smith.

Whenever it shuts  is irrelevant. Who would realistically want to join and be any good for us???

Noticed he wasn't even on the bench in their game.

Players will come to us if they want first team football and don't have a better offer. We are still an attractive club to join and a striker might just look at the amount of chances we create and think to themselves "I could score a few goals there".

You need to stop being so shortsighted and look beyond the league table when assessing our ability to attract players.

Beaten on one point, so you shift your argument.

We may not have to pay all of a loan players wages, and neither do we know what wage budget is available to McD. But ZK is probably on a decent wage and he has joined us.

"If somebody popped up now like a striker for example, and we felt he was the right one, I'm sure we would do something."

Doesn't really sound like he has one lined up. He just sounds desperate for someone to get in touch.

Would Kitson come back again?

simply couldn't afford him. it cost us 6 figures to loan him last season plus the wages

Is he back at Stoke then? On the bench in recent games?
