The Generic 'Who We Should Sign In The Summer' Thread

by Wimb » 10 Mar 2010 15:47

Might as well put this one up.

With the squad needing a few new faces over the summer who would you like to see us sign (try and keep them sensible if possible :D )

Yeah this may sound distinctivly FM/CMish but fook it.

I'd like us to to sign Griff, though I don't think he'll come.

Bring Sonks back, I can see Stoke releasing him/selling him on the cheap, he knows Maccy D and he's still at an alright level for the Championship. I know they say never go back, but in this case it might just work.

Robbie Blake - last I heard he was out of contract in the summer, he's always been a handful and an experienced striker wouldn't go amiss.

Marlon Harewood - Not sure where his future lies at the moment, if he's available he's just the type of striker we need to play alongside Church/Long/Hunty.

Jonjo Shelvey - Yes he'll probably go to a PL and probably out of our price range. But given we're localish, have a good reputation and Parky would probably do business we should at least put in a bid if Chalrton don't get promoted.

Maik Taylor - If there is any truth in the Feds leaving rumours we could do worse then sign Taylor.

Brian Stock - Yes he was a Rodgers target but he's always looked impressive when I've seen him play.

Also 2 fullbacks, though to be perfectly honest I struggle to think of any I'd like us to get off the top of my head!

Let's not.

Why? He wanted to leave and was even happy when Stoke came in with an offer. If he was so desperate to leave, I'm not so desperate to want him to come back. He hasn't exactly pulled up trees after leaving Reading. He can rot.

I agree with Spacey.

Looking forward to signings that we may not have heard of, didn't know enough of to give informed comments on (although I realise that won't stop the usual suspects), and see how how they develop under Brian.

(But then again I'm easily satisfied)

A good left back and a good right back, preferably with some combination of them having pace & experience.

A good centreback.

Maybe a good winger. Maybe a good, tall & strong striker.

Can we apply for the following

K Doyle (Wolves)
S Hunt (Hull)
A Bikey (Burnley)
D Kitson (Stoke)
I Sonko (Stoke)
N Shorey (Fulham)
S Sidwell (Aston Villa)
J Harper (Sheff Utd)
M Hahnemman (Wolves)
A Griffin (Stoke) (Understand from Saints fan Murty is crocked and not likely to play next year )
G Little (Sheffield Utd)

I think this team could get promoted out of the Championship

Sonks never recovered from the injury, loss of pace and passion for the game. Would much rather see Kish sign.

Griffin and Berty would be excellent additions too, though to sign those 3 we would have to free up wages. Marek/Cummings/Cisse and to a lesser extent Rasiak would to obvious 1st team players we could afford to move on without really missing.

Would love to see a player like Billy Sharp, who is surprisingly good at leading the line, tore Bristol City to bits the other week, seemed to always find space to recieve the ball.

So on top of making the loan players full time, a striker a utility midfielder and utility defender would be all I would imagine we would look at. Henry really needs to start making an impression and hopefully Bignal too can have some impact before the season is up.

Getting Noel back would be like a new signing.

Without knowing what our financial strategy will be it's next to impossible to make any guesses.#

I'd opt for about 16 new players, all a bit better than the ones we have.

If we only manage 3 or 4 then that's OK.

However i don;t think it takes a genius to see that it's the defence that is top priority. Everywhere else I'd be OK with going into next season with the same players as we have now.

LOL at anyone thinking this club will have any money to do anything remotely exciting in the summer transfer window.

Sure, we didn't spend any money in the last transfer window, therefore we should have some of the budget left over?

if we end this season by kicking the shit out of all the teams in the division, then we should concentrate on getting the georgian mass murderer and Bertrand to sign, keep everybody else who regularly plays, and thats about it.

We didn't spend any, because we didn't have any. Because somebody spunked it all in the summer.

We'll make signings. We always do. But we won't spend more than £1.5m next season total, without big money sales. Probably less. Say £800k summer and £200k January.

Yes but he did "spunk" it all on the likes of Mills, McAnuff and Rasiak all of whom have played their part this season. If you add Bertrand as well then Rodgers's signings were pretty good. O'Dea didn't come off, Cummings hasn't come off yet and the jury's out on Frankie
