Awful. If we're pushing for promotion we need players who have the potential to do well at prem level. Murphy has had his chance there and failed.

Groundsman or cleaning Sir John's office?

Would be a waste of £1M IMO.

I will put my neck on the line and say Liam Rosenior won't be giving him a lift to the Mad Stad.

I like him as a player as well. Think he would be a good signing.

From the Daily Mail

Reading are competing with Ipswich for £1m Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy, who scored six goals in 18 appearances on loan at Portman Road.

Murphy is likely to leave the Stadium of Light in the summer

 at anyone thinking we're going to spend any money in the summer esp. 1 million, therefore this rumour is so crap it should be on the football rumours site

Tbf, we made huge cut backs last summer and still spent a surprising amount on players. £1m on someone wouldn't be a shock.

People really do set themselves up to look silly with statements like the above about what we will or wont spend.

Murphy is quick and powerful, he can play up front or on the wing. He's got a bit about him and does have an x factor. He's a long way off from perfect. WHo else you gonna get for £1m? Everyone will be in for Hooper. There aint much out there.

Have to trust McD judgement, would not surprise me if this was Murphy's agent trying to get a better deal at Ipswich.

Plus Hooper is going to cost in excess of £2m, possibly even near to £3m. Rasiak out, Murphy in, would do me but I can't see that we would be able to get his signature ahead of Ipswich (he's worked with Keane at Sunderland and joined him again at Ipswich).

If that is the case ( of which you have no idea) then I'd prefer us not to waste money on shite. Get a loanee in.

A quick look at murphy's stats says he's scored 14 goals in 110 games for sunderland and 6 in 18 at ipswich. No thanks - Especially not with noel hunt returning next season which im excited about.

I do have a pretty good idea thanks.

Young mobile strikers for less than a million quid.

Like I said this seems like agent talk to push the deal with Ipswich through. Seems like were are trying to do our business early this summer so we may find out soon.

This is great news! I have no idea why people say this is not a good signing. Helped steer Ipswich away from relegation. 1 millions is a bit of a hefty price though.....

£1m in today's market isn't actually a great deal.

Don't get me wrong, he is quite the player but for £1m, maybe we could get a better striker? I believe there are some good strikers out there that are worth less than £1m.
