RUMOUR: Jobi McAnuff

by TBM » 26 Jan 2009 11:21

Apparently both ourself and Charlton are after Watfords Jobi McAnuff....

The Hornets are keen to reduce their wage bill and last week allowed Leigh Bromby to rejoin Sheffield United on loan.

McAnuff has been a regular in the side under Rodgers and the manager admitted he has attracted interest.

Rodgers said: "Clubs at this time are looking to players and one club has asked about Jobi.

"But Jobi is happy where he is at the moment. Unless something suits him and the club then he won't be going."

Always looked a useful player. Possibly not consistant enough, but then nor is Kebe.

Shouldn't be too costly either. Not sure what that would mean for Henry though...

All the rumours suggest he is joining Sheffield United for £500k.

He rejected a move to Charlton on loan (no surprise!)

Not really done the business for us so been a poor buy value wise.

Maybe a move will do him good?

He always looks talented and athletic when I've seen him, but it's not exactly clear what he does in a team. Not sure how we'd use him.

I remember when Pompey were trying to buy him and Reo-Coker,two players expected to go on to better things, from Wimbledon.
He does, like a lot of wingers, look to be inconsistent just like Pennant,Eagles,Kebe etc but whether we want another inconsistent winger I'm not sure.

A player that looked to have massive promise and never really went anywhere. Not really interested. Wouldn't be a significant improvement on anything we've got.

Surely a significant improvement on Henry who is yet to make an impression on the first team?

A few years ago I would have been very tempted. However, it looks like he has reached his peak and it doesn't look high enough to me to warrant signing him.

Just my 2p worth.

Deano wasn't a Championship player when we signed him, and he didn't have Premiership experience either. He was also a striker who played wide on occasions. And arrived with a suspect attitude.

I can't see a likeness.

Would be a Coppell-esque signing... A decent player with something to prove...

Henry shows a lot of promise without any of the "not gone anywhere" disappointment. And he's younger and doesn't cost us any fees. No brainer IMO.

I'd also argue about Henry making no impression on the first team. He's played in a few games. Nothing spectacular but some solid performances and he's scored a few goals as well. Happy with him as back up to Kebe, but I'd like him on the bench more getting 10 - 20 mins more regularly.

How about we buy McAnuff, flog Henry for half the cost and play McAnuff and Kebe on the flanks? Devastating!

Yep, that's certainly one I got wrong when we were talking speculation. But only a partial lol given I was completely in favour of him once he'd signed, especially after I'd seen him play for us.

Sometimes I just want our youngsters to get their chance and do well a bit too much.

Ian Royal meant to have I realised he would be good for us once I saw how good we was for us.
