Bristol City's Skuse Under Contract and Going Nowhere
Monday, March 09, 2009, 10:32
Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has rubbished reports linking Cole Skuse with a move to West Bromwich Albion.
The 22-year-old midfielder is a target for the Premier League strugglers according to the media sources in the Midlands.
But Lansdown says there has been no contact with West Brom and insists Skuse is going nowhere.
A report in the Sunday Mercury claimed Albion boss Tony Mowbray is interested in bringing Skuse to the Hawthorns.
He was not quoted, but the article suggested the Bristolian would be on his way when his contract expired at the end of this season.
Lansdown countered: “That’s wrong for a start. Cole is not out of contract at the end of the season.
“In fact he has a deal which extends a long way beyond that, so the report is clearly inaccurate.”
He added: “We have heard nothing from West Brom regarding Cole Skuse and, even if we had, we wouldn’t want to do business.
“Cole is our player and we have no intention of letting him go to West Brom or any other club.”
A fringe player during Bristol City’s first season in the Championship, Skuse has successfully staked his claim for a regular place in the starting line-up during the second half of the current campaign.
A product of the club’s youth academy, the Bristolian has taken full advantage of Marvin Elliott’s long injury lay-off to forge an effective partnership with Lee Johnson in the centre of midfield.
Having signed a contract extension last year, Skuse clearly features in manager Gary Johnson’s long-term plans.
Were a rival club to come in with an offer for him, City would ask a high price.
Lansdown confirmed: “Even if Cole was for sale, and he isn’t, we would want a realistic fee for him.”

IMAMATEOFJOVSKY If we were going to raid Bristol City, would rather Marvin Elliott than Skuse
