It think JM is a forgive but never forget kinda man.

Threads like this are what really make me worry about Coppell leaving. We are all a bit quick to say he won't keep us up if we DO go up, me being one of them. But there isn't much out there.....

The question remains that if, as expected, SSC doffs his cap and goes at the end of this season who will replace, him given the financial stranglehold that JM puts on the clubs transfer and wages policy, Pardew has worked within the "penny pinching", "do it on the cheap" system that Reading operate under and might just be best option of those who would apply for it.

I'd say if Coppell goes they should just give all the players away, turn the stadium into a refugee camp and let the fans go do something more enjoyable.
It's clearly all too painful for some to be involved in our rubbish club.

Deathy
Sun Tzu You think he'd currently be described as a 'successful' employed manager ?

I think his (successful and not so) track record says:

Division 1 runners up and promotion - Reading FC
Championship play-off semifinalists following season - Reading FC
Championship play-off winners - West Ham United
Premier League 7th place (?) - West Ham United
FA Cup Final - West Ham United

Vs

Premier League relegation - Charlton Athletic
Failure to return Charlton to the Premiership instantly - when the club's in the state it is!

I'd say he's one of the best qualified managers available right now!

You somehow failed to mention the next season at West Ham when he got the sack.
BTW would you respect the judgement of a manager who when in charge of a lowly Premiership club thought it best to leave out Tevez and Mascherano, two world-class players, and play Harewood ahead of Tevez and Hayden Mullins ahead of Mascherano?
No wonder he got the sack and remember how many games he started with Rougier and Hughes.
As The Quiet Man says, a person more suited to double-glazing sales than football management.

Forget Pardew. Let's have Brendan Rodgers.

Is that the same Boothroyd, that someone on here said was a bit disliked in the dressing room??

Ah, but if you read on, you'll see I mentioned that all the success at West Ham ended when Egg Head took control of the club.

Our dressing room? :|

Nezhen Thanks for the 'young' compliment, but I'm afraid that there is absolutely no foundation in the parjudas hyperbole. The only concievable way in which this situation would change, would be after the removal/resignation of Madjeski as Chairman. Until then, this is not going to happen, I promise you!

Never the less, I'm reliably told they had met for lunch in Henley. The rest is nothing more than healthy speculation.

conceivable - i before e expect after...

Friend of mine was speaking to Nigel Howe and Pardew returning to Reading has been discussed and by all accounts it's pretty much down to Coppell's decision to stay or go. Coppell's had quite a steer on this and has been keen to make sure there's some continuity / succession planning in place so we don't go from stable to 'managerless'. Think it's his way of showing his affection for the club.

Only possible negative to this could be that we could be ruling out some decent other candidates who'd jump at the chance to be the manager of a club that stood by Coppell and Pardew so well.

I think we made a mistake in getting rid of Bullivant. He was never really given a chance and in fact, Burns got us relegated in 97. Bearing in mind that death rules out the likes of Porterfield and Burns, the choice of ex managers returning is greatly reduced. If I had to choose I would bring back the FSB. At least we played attrative, free flowing football not too disimilar to 3 years ago.

Judas will not not be back for as long as Sir John has a hole in his @rse.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, succession planning was finalised once Eamonn Dolan joined us.

I thank you.
